In a bad flu year there could be up to 70,000 deaths in the US and of course many deaths, relatively speaking, in the Bahamas. But these flu related deaths are usually spread out over the flu season which could last up to six months. That's not the case for the Red China Virus which causes the related serious illnesses and fatalities to occur during a compressed shorter period of time. This explains why healthcare providers are so much more concerned about the Red China Virus overwhelming the heathcare system which would contribute to unnecessary deaths.
Our national debt, if you include all government guaranteed obligations, including unfunded entitlements under government sponsored pension plans, is actually well over $12 billion.
Minnis and Turnquest have been governing by borrowing since May 2017 because of their incompetence and refusal to entertain serious belt-tightening by downsizing the civil work force. Instead they chose the politician's easy road of more borrowings, thereby contributing greatly to our national debt which is now totally unsustainable. Perhaps more importantly though, they don't seem to have a clue what to do now, other than try to borrow even more and/or rob Peter to pay Paul.
Meanwhile, as they fumble about looking for solutions to the gravest financial crisis our country has ever faced, they would have us believe their own incompetence played no role and that the last PLP government, Hurricane Dorian and the Red China Virus are to blame for everything that has us where we are today, i.e. up the proverbial creek without a paddle. We need the right minds working on our current situation asap because if the Minnis-led FNM government looks to either the IMF or Red China as our 'lender of last resort', it would be game over Bahamas.
These cruise ships have been taken out of circulation by Royal Caribbean because of the Red China Virus. It seems they have only their crew members on board, mainly comprised of foreign (non-US) nationals, many of whom are believed to have been infected with the Red China Virus. The Bahamas is apparently allowing these foreign owned cruise ships to seek refuge in our territorial waters because the US government considers it much too risky to allow them to dock at a US port. What's going on here? Our Minnis-led FNM government has made no public disclosure of this high risk accommodation to Royal Caribbean. And what about the other cruise line companies? Have similarly secretive high risk arrangements been made with them as well?
The agreements under which these foreign cruise line companies are leasing certain islands in the Bahamas surely do not permit what's going on here. Is the Minnis-led FNM government also allowing other large sea vessels (e.g. container cargo ships) and their crews to seek refuge in our territorial waters because no other country will allow them to dock at one of their ports? What's the story here?
Total of 106 Haitian nationals found illegally living in a church in Marsh Harbour. 35 of them had no documents evidencing their immigration status in the Bahamas, The remaining 71 likely had fraudulently obtained documents allowing them to reside in the Bahamas. What else is new?!
Minnis probably thinks there's a difference between a 24/7 curfew and a country-wide shutdown. If so, perhaps he should tell us what he thinks that difference is. Ordering everyone to just stay locked-up in their home until he says otherwise was never going to be a realistic option for many good reasons. Many of the financially strapped elderly living in delapidated homes with serious pre-existing medical conditions are probably just as likely to die from a prolonged total lockdown situation as they are from contracting the Red China Virus. But the 'stay at home and die' policy for the more vulnerable elderly may be Minnis's game plan to help with the rationing of very limited healthcare resources down the road during the peak period of seriously ill Covid-19 patients who are younger and more likely to survive their illness.
> These experts have recommended the curfew be extended for at least another 30 days, according to Attorney General Carl Bethel. However, he later added a 14-day extension may also be discussed.
Someone remind Tweedle-Dumb Minnis that chief reporter Khrisna Russell wrote the above words in an article published in the March 24 edition of The Tribune following a press interview with Carl Bethel. And of course Minnis is on record as following the advice of his experts. It seems Minnis is now having his Commissioner of Police waste his time investigating the AG when there are so many other much more important things he should be doing. What a pathetic joke!
We've always loved the foreign visitors who vacation in our country.....but that does not mean we must love the corrupt foreign corporate interests that have for decades been sucking the life blood out of our economy in exchange for relatively low paying jobs for Bahamians and a few other crumbs tossed our nation's way. Let's face it, the Bahamas has a relatively small population and most Bahamians would be self-sufficient and quite well-off were it not for all of the non-transparent backroom deal-cutting between our dumb crooked politicians and the corrupt foreign corporations and their agents. Ask yourself why is it we don't have significant Bahamian ownership of the hotel sector in our country and many smaller hotels and other resort establishments rather than the behemoths like Atlantis and Baha Mar? For decades now the entire system has been rigged against a small nation and the vast majority of its people being able to capitalize on and benefit from their heritage and greatest assets: sun, sand, sea.
