Although Fred Smith sometimes does get carried away in his passionate defense of Human Rights and Freedom of Speech, he nevertheless plays an essential and valuable role as one of our national watchdogs regarding the civil rights of all Bahamians, especially the most weak and vulnerable in our society. Keep up the good work, Fred Smith!

That would be good!

Why Gomez "got fired" by PM??? ......We'll let me see........could be the missing files on someone the USA wanted extradited really bad, for many years. Perhaps Uncle Sam been on the phone with some other stuff re Delaware and PM had to cut Gomez loose.

Could be Gomez simply is not competent enough to deal with Baha Mar's hot shot lawyers in Delaware.

Could be our AG feels betrayed re that Punch front page story.

Could even be what we have been told, that The Bahamas Government finally realizes that they have been exposed (thanks Baltron) re their skullduggery in siding with their Chinese friends against Baha Mar.

But Tal, i really do not think that Mr. Gomez is in collusion with any members of "the red party".

Education is a wonderful thing! But education, in the sense of being " book smart", on its own, is not the answer. Education is a continuing process from birth to death. Everyone's life experiences educate them every day of their lives, and ethics, morals, compassion, thankfulness, respect and kindness shown to others are even more important than the "book smart" part of education.

We have many highly "educated" politicians on all sides of the political divide, and look at the mess they have created in our Bahamaland!

At this time in our country's development we are suffering from a "Morals and Ethics" deficit, not an Education deficit.

If your statistic of 102 murders this year is true, I wonder just how many of these murders are drug/gang related? Many of the victims are out on bail for serious crimes and their murders seem to be in retaliation for their previous deeds. This "vigilante justice" is the only "Capital Punishment" happening in The Bahamas. How sad to see so many young men lose their lives in this tragic manner.

The Bahamas government cannot possibly "solve the issues facing the country" before the next election as many of the major issues facing the country at this time, are being created by this government.

The Baha Mar debacle, although at first caused by CCA's inability/unwillingness to meet deadlines re completion of the resort, was made much worse by government's intervention when they initiated involuntary winding up proceedings in the Bahamas Supreme Court, seemingly, to limit the political fall-out arising from Baha Mar's filing for Chapter 11 protection in Delaware.

The alarming 2015 murder statistics are a symptom of moral decay and dysfunctional families and, although our government must do more to combat crime, solving the problem of crime will require the participation of all of Bahamian society for many years to come.

The allegations of corruption and conflict of interest at present undermining government's credibility are just beginning. Depending on the effectiveness of our Opposition, rather than being "solved before the next election", these allegations may, indeed, precipitate an EARLY election.

While the death penalty may not be a deterrent to murder in every case, I believe it might be in some cases. Certainly the death penalty is revenge and to the families of some murder victims revenge is sweet!... and it might
help heal their aching hearts and help them move on with their lives with some sense of closure. I think that the families of murder victims, are themselves victims of the crime and helping them heal should be a consideration.

Finally the best argument for the death penalty might be the certainty that the murderer absolutely cannot kill again!
