Mr.Minnis receives repeated criticism both from within the FNM and from presently undecided voters and I have heard very few strong endorsements of his character, or positive comments regarding his capability. His lack-luster "My Fellow Bahamians" address on Baha Mar was dreadful!!!
Exactly how does he still manage to control his party, and exactly why is he still the Leader of the FNM??
Does the FNM Council really think that they can win the next election with Mr. Minnis as their leader?
All these allegations about corruption and conflict of interest are damaging the reputation of The Bahamas.
What should be asked for in the House of Assembly, is a list of ALL members of either The House, or The Senate, who have, or whose families have, a financial interest in any business associated with Baha Mar. That would be a good place to start!!
Our Prime Minister is clearly neither on the side of the Bahamian people NOR on the side of Beijing!!
He has always pretended he is on the side of the Bahamian people, but check out the squalor in his constituency and it is plain to see that he does not REALLY care about Bahamians, not even his constituents, the Bahamians who keep on electing him to the House of Assembly, term after term after term!!! Like many other politicians, he sweet-talks them to get what he wants!!
He also pretends he is on the side of Beijing, and cozies up to them to avail himself of what THEY can provide.
The Prime Minister is clearly on his own side, and, perhaps, also on the side of his family members and his inner circle, most especially if they have information about him that he considers to be damaging.
Like all career politicians, Mr. Christie says whatever he thinks his audience wants to hear, and promises whatever he needs to promise, in order to achieve his latest short-term goals.
At this stage of his long political career, Mr. Christie should be putting the finishing touches to his legacy! Instead, he seems to be overseeing the destruction of our countries' credibility in the eyes of the world, by directing a most egregious and ill-conceived attempt to confiscate the largest ever investment project in the history of The Bahamas!!!
Great post Dilly Tree!! As far as our standing in the International community is concerned, all we have to do is get rid of this rotten, "Post Independence Government" and replace them with a team of dedicated Statesmen and Stateswomen, all of whom are above reproach regarding honesty and integrity. Our new government would fully explore all of the scandals that have rocked our nation during the past few years and expose and punish the evil-doers.
The new government would then immediately pass the F.I.A. and other new legislation that would require all Government contracts to be monitored and approved by a bi-partisan Public Finance Committee. Perhaps we also need a Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau with high fines and jail terms for those caught in acts of bribery and corruption. Once word got out that outside investors would be treated fairly, without bribery and corruption, and that our House of Assembly was filled with an altogether new type of politician free of racism and xenophobia, then The Bahamas would soon become the "Singapore" of this region.
However, just like Singapore needed a Lee Kuan You, The Bahamas needs it's own transformative hero!! Anyone know such a Saviour!!
Great post, Islandgirl, but the trouble is, how many of our Bahamian voters are thinkers like you and the others that post on this site? PLP politicians like Gibson and Mitchell know what happened in recent elections, and trust and believe it will happen again. Race card being played, less educated voters being convinced that only the PLP will protect the natives against the greedy exploitive foreign devils, banknotes in T-shirts, government contracts for cronies, web shop funding, and now, perhaps, plenty Chinese dollars!!
Have we yet reached a point where the critical mass of voters will do what is just and right for their country and not sell out their birthright for a ham or turkey or some 50 year old racist claptrap??
I think the Opposition have a great deal of work to do, both within their party and through their dialogue with our electorate if they are to re-gain control of The House of Assembly. PLP like Potcake with bone! Watch out if you try and take it away....too many have too much to lose, ...to lose!!!
This time it will require the participation of not only the usual political operatives, but all Bahamians who love their country getting involved and putting our beloved Bahamaland back on track!!!
A duck dressed in a chicken costume is still a duck!! It still walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck!! It's a DUCK, it's a DUCK!! If it wasn't so outrageous it would be hilarious!!
