It isn't as simple as that anymore. Spain successfully sued a US salvager(The Black Swan Project) in the US courts for claim for treasure found off the coast of Portugal in 2012. That set a new legal precedent. Even though the motives for the win were in question now may you be tangled up in court for years. These salvagers know that so they hurriedly want to get to the find and squirrel some treasure before the legal battles begin. Salvaging is a very expensive endeavor so must of them now figure out ways to at least salvage some of their cost back from previous failed operations. Some of these salvagers worst than the crew of Queen Anne's Revenge. The government should always move with caution.
I sympathize with the owner. One of the major setback for a business of this type is the high energy cost associated with refrigeration. In this country with its issues with electricity it is almost like double jeopardy. I hope she gets it sorted out and if and when she does and if she hasn't done so yet to do an energy audit and try to streamline the electricity consumption as much as possible. There is also an element of an age old problem that face Bahamian entrepreneurs with an innovative idea, someone with the means and usually the political connection always trying to take your business for their own. If they want some other entity to run the business it is obvious that the model is viable. Instead of offering advice to keep the business up and running and get it on the profitable track, and just extract their pound of flesh, they rather raid it for their own benefit. Sad but one of the many harsh realities of business on the whole.
So what happen to the local suppliers who selling masks they ordered from abroad to resell! These emergency orders while good seem to be getting to his head.
Yet he is not explaining how a price increase will alleviate the problems of his supply chain! Vertical integration seems not to be a part of Bahamian business person's acumen. Like typical Bahamians looking for the gubberment for their solutions and profiteering. Our economy is just to small for a free market spirit without a substantial commitment from the business community to explore and implement innovative market strategies. Without this the consumers will suffer. Just my humble opinion.
From my understanding is that you don't really need a mandatory evacuation just declare a state of emergency like is usually done in southern states in the US when a hurricane approaches. So why go through this?
An old adage attributed to a Rothschild that seem to hold true even today, " when there is blood in the streets, time to buy" in this case,land... Never thought I would see this in my lifetime ...wowwww.
