Went to Long Island for this year vacation and it was over all considerably cheaper and way more relaxing. It was cheaper because for one I went by boat . The long ride wasn't bad but I was able to carry my vehicle so saved on car rental. Also I need not to heavily budget for spending or the "Walmart experience". I had beautiful accomodations, had fun exploring and meeting new people, learned some local island history and swam in some of the most beautiful waters in the Bahamas. Being from Nassau I felt like I wasn't even in the Bahamas. Me and my wife combined have vacationed all over the world,Northern Africa,Europe, qpuite a few places in the US,Canada,Mexico, and the Caribeean and we both admitted that while all those trips were admirable in their own right nothing felt more unique by experiencing such a jewel in our own backyard so to speak. It also felt good to suport the local economy instead of some other country's economy. An overall wonderfall experience one we hope to do again in other southern islands in the future.

According to their site you can apply online for it. This has less to do with us but more to do with terrorism. Canadians tightening up their borders. I really can't see how this get the PLP fault this Bin Laden fault the Canadians where slack with their borders for a bit now they experiencing terrorists acts on their soil. My God people does everything in the world has something to do with Bahamian politics. British citizens even need one. Jeez people use the internet for more than facebook and porn.

The last part of the story is also quite troubling in respect to this technological age. The fact that there is a lack of persons with IT skills. A few years ago I happen to be at an opening of an Apple store in the US and was taken aback by the setup and a thought dawned on me that the Bahamas is getting left behind in the IT field. Bahamians think once the can operate a smartphone, navigate Facebook, or gamble online they are tech savvy. But there is something deeper. There are very few tech firms here and very few businesses seem to be update with the tech way of business. Our government institutions are prime examples still writing up things and the recent chaos at the Passport office. While these and other businesses need to update themselves my question is where are the tech firms that can assist with them?
I remember at one point when every graduating student wanted to study something in the computer science field. Where are they now? Was the employment environment here not conducive to pursue an IT career? Did they abandon their studies or just did not return home if they studied abroad.
Yes tourism is our number one industry but have we over pursued it to the detriment of other industries such as the IT industry?
We need to wake up and wake up fast.

A Machiavellian tactic give them festivals while you pillage

As long as politicians are still the final say when it comes to engineering decisions Florida Power and Light could come and manage BEC there will be very lttle difference. BEC has reach the point where only new progressive and qualified ownership can change things around. The government "ownership " of BEC has caused our woes where every decision has to be approved by a body whose main objective is to keep political power through corruption and nepotism. The Bahamas. is a third world banana republic. Just look around with so many woes going the government still have time and waste resources on a "street festival". A Machiavellian practice to soothe the minds of the people while they pillage.smh

Gambling meccas Las Vegas, Atlantic City were started by Italian/Jewish gangsters eventually the illegality was forced out and now the industry in the US is a major economic force. Why now that the Bahamian government has decided to at least give some semblance of fairness by allowing Bahamians to partake not just as employers but as stakeholders in an industry that has always been legal for foreigners not Bahamians there is still an uproar. We as Bahamians always think so lowly of ourselves it is amazing the self hatred we have developed over the years . A self hatred that has been fostered by these patronizing political parties and government. SMH it is really sad.

Aging power stations, poorly planned infrastructure and incompetent engineers that sound like the fuel that caused this fire. BEC needs more than a new management team but a strategic partner who is familiar with generation and distribution of electricity based on our capacity who will not just ring every profit and penny out of the company to transfer to their foreign homebase but who will be in a position to help us correct our infrastructural shortcomings and manage more efficiently.

But on the brighter side if there is one, maybe just maybe some of yall had no choice with no smartphones, tvs, internet etc. and spend some quality time ,outdoors with your family. I know that kill some of yall SMH.
