I don't know who the advisers to these people were, but irrespective of that, the people paid $12,000.00 to sleep in a tent. And the ministry of tourism was aware of this. Where did the tents come from? What about showers and sanitation? Wifi and tv? Who was contracted to serve hundreds of people this "gourmet" food. One thing is for certain, the Bahamas received excellent coverage for this screw up, and the lead statement to some of these reports on international news stations is "They say it's better in the Bahamas, but is it"? People who expect to make millions of dollars off of events staged in the Bahamas should be made to pay a hefty contingency deposit to the government to cover situations like this, that seem to occur more often than not. JA RULE.
It is not over yet, but it will be on Sunday. Then what. Before election day. Promises, promises. we are used to the baseless rhetoric and government grandstanding. Even if something is released, can we believe it?
$12,000.00 to come to such an event. P.T. Barnum said a sucker is born everyday. He was right. Piss poor organizing, and lack of government concern for visitors who were duped. Great publicity for Exuma and all of the Bahamas.
Not a fan of Mr. Nottage or the PLP. Still one must put politics aside and hope that his family ensures he receives proper medical attention. I agree he needs to remove himself from the political mainstream, as it appears the stress of his position is making him ill. I wish him a speedy recovery.
If the PLP win the election, Fitzgerald will probably be knighted. No consequences for his actions from this government. Anyone remember his accomplishments as Minister of Education, which is supposed to be his job? Think hard and let me know. Maybe the D National Average, and the conditions at the schools have miraculously improved, and I just missed it.
Those concessions made by Ingraham, virtually ruined our offshore banking industry, created unemployment, and made it unbearably difficult for Bahamians to bank in their own country. What did we get in return?
It stands to reason that they will not be able to fill the rooms. With Atlantis, as the single mega-resort, unable to sustain a high level of occupancy year round, it is unlikely that Bahamar will be able to attract enough new business to enjoy break-even occupancy levels. It has been speculated that they will fly plane loads of visitors from China. That is a long haul, and it bypasses gambling meccas like Macau and Las Vegas. More likely they will pull business from Atlantis, which will result in problems for that property. Top it all off with the taxes Banker refers to, and it does not appear to bode well for the Bahamar. I couldn't find a Bahamian rate on their site, but basic room rates start at $375.00 plus taxes.
