One would think that in the year 2016, with all of the state of the art upgrades at PMH, and with the upcoming institution of our National Health Plan, that we would not have to send samples abroad to determine if one has contracted a disease such as Zika. Will we ever have an up to date pathology dept.? These figures reported by government are delayed due to overseas testing and are way out of the ballpark. Zika cases are being diagnosed by private physicians all over the island, and we are pretending that we have only eight cases in New Providence. I had the greatest of respect for Dr. Gomez when he was a doctor, but this has disappeared when I now see that he has morphed into a political puppet, who says what he is told to. Sad.
Lighbourn wrote his own political obituary at the FNM convention. He now has to pay the piper. It would be unwise for the FNM to give him the Montague nomination. He misrepresented the party by expressing his own, distorted point of view, and angered much of the populace, of all political persuasions. He probably would not be re-elected.
BPl is no different than BEC. Whose oversight was it that the generators were not ordered in time? The PM, Leslie Miller, Brave Davis, or Pamela Hill. Each one will point the finger at the other. They told us the generators would be late, but in the meantime did nothing to prepare for their installation when they arrived. They are here now and are useless. Just as all of the above are, who played a part in this fiasco. Paul Maynard and his union, of course, have no blame, but will probably be lobbying for a strike/salary increase before Christmas, which is my estimated time that they will have the backups up and running. What a useless organization. No planning for summer demand, no planning to upgrade to more eco-friendly energy supplies, just excuses. Government please note, the electorate is sick and tired of this, while you and your cohorts live in generated/solar powered homes, at our expense, we are made to suffer. Election is just around the corner.
Realistically, the only entities still placing deposits in BOB are those whose salaries are assigned there for debt service, government agencies such as NIB, and the numbers boys, because this is the only bank that will take them. Any one else who chooses to do so, say good bye to your funds.
Same story every year, no matter which Government is in power. Time for some mid-management changes in the departments responsible for the annual screw ups.
Obie Wilchcomebe and Paul Major. I don't know which of Bonnie and Clyde or Abbott and Costello, are the appropriate comparison. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Typical PLP reaction to union pressure around election time. This legislation is non-sense and counterproductive to investors (Bahamian or Foreign) doing business in the Bahamas. Rather than risk jail sentences for making sometimes business saving decisions, the alternative will be to shut down completely. Will government then pass legislation saying that if you close your business without their permission, you will go to jail? Truly third world, banana republic thinking.
A lot of things have changed since 2009 for Mr. Wilchcombe. The Bank of the Bahamas wrote off the 3 million plus loan for him and Pleasent Brididgewater, and he is now in the comfortable position of controlling the gaming board, which with the exception of Atlantis, controls the "numbers bosses. We know that no one controls the numbers bosses, rather they control the gaming board, and people in authority in this board are handsomely rewarded for their "assistance". Why would he want to upset the apple cart? Tourism is a secondary issue for him now, and he spends his time boasting of how the amount of numbers houses has diminished from 600 to 400, and how this is because of his efforts. He also is glorifying how they won't allow "houses" to be near schools, churches, and in residential neighborhoods. Get real, Bars, Churches, Schools, Numbers Houses, and Residential neighborhoods, are side by side all over New Providence and the family islands. How can you fit 400 web shops in an island 21 x 7 without having them adjacent to one of the above?
Government is too busy dealing with Zika, Bahamar, Sandals, Moody's, Travel alert from USA, millions missing from Road Traffic, COB, Customs, and other government departments. And sports minister Danny is crying about losing his job. It's a shame that they forget about you guys, but your country did not, and we are proud of you all.
