A bunch of sick analogies of his reign. If you like being put in front of firing squad for saying something wrong or nothing at all. Then this is the place for you. Cuban's sneak into the US on man made rafts with their children to escape his reign. His brother is still in charge. I wouldn't expect much change. Trump is going to request change to keep the agreement with Obama open.

I hope this peaceful protest makes some changes. Don't give up. Peacefully make yourselves heard. Then get out and vote on election day. The US made theirselves heard on election day. Your vote does count.

That is sad. In Costa Rica they have armed guards with machine guns outside of every business. The windows and doors have iron bars on them. Theft is so bad we were going to leave our rental car at the burger king to ride with someone there. Our guide told us no, it wouldn't be there when we got back. The crime was so awful. Bahamians it can get worse. I pray the government does a crackdown. I would never consider going back to Costa Rica. Although it was beautiful. Monkey's in the trees. Unique reptiles. I guess the poverty lead to the crime there. You had to have a guide to get around there because the streets had no names. Finding your way around could get interesting. Gangs ambushed a school while we were there.
No way to live.

If it's not razor wire, it's rod iron over windows and doors. This isn't a quality life and shouldn't be acceptable to Bahamians.

Tourists are already afraid to go to Nassau. I've been on several cruises that port in Nassau, and about half of the ship at this port don't even get off the ship. The reason is the crime. People don't go on vacation to fear harm. I love the Bahamas and it citizens, but I don't wonder around the island like I once did. I feel like just because I'm a white American, it's presumed that were rich and snobs. I drive a school bus, it's not a high paid job. Were not hungry, but were not rich. Half of my adult life I was a single parent. I went without many times so my kids had food, clothes and shoes. I just enjoyed meeting the people. Eating at local restaurants and going to church with you. I don't feel safe doing that now.

Glad to see your self respect at such a young age. Many of us don't learn that until later in life. We learn it the hard way, enjoyed reading your article.

The police say is no reason for the public to be afraid in spite of the recent murders. More than once they also say they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. What do they mean, we should never fear walking down the street. Going to the movies. Standing in our yards. Driving down the road. Talking to friends on the street corner. Violence is out of control. A lot of what drives these men to turn to these gangs is the lack of work and hope for a better different future. They know hunger and going without, but this isn't the answer. I know you know that. The government has got to find a way to improve the economy. Tourism is the main source of income, with this crime status. That won't improve. People save for their vacation and they won't bring their wife and kids somewhere with warning about the crime. The police need to really crack down and prosecute criminals. Then create jobs. I wish they could create industrial jobs without relying on tourism. I wish I had answers. I miss they way it was in the 80's. I love the Bahamas and it citizens. Some of the happiest times in my life were spent there.

Thirty years ago you could visit the Bahamas, walk around. Join in where ever you might like. You were always welcome. When we travel we like to see how the people live and eat. We visited the docks for fresh conch. Gentlemen would off to show us how it was made. Absolutely delish. We would ask people where they liked to eat and that's where we visit. In Freeport, we even went out to eight mile rock frequently. Always welcomed. We went to church with your families. Now I still visit, but I don't walk around. I do still look up old friends and make new ones. I love the Bahamas and it citizens. I know the lack of good jobs or any jobs is mostly the cause of the hopelessness that has let to the crime levels. Lack of families staying together. The men staying with their wives and kids. The kids need this support system. Killing people for no reason is so troublesome. I pray for economic growth for this country and strong families.
