This is the crux of the matter, nobody knows anything about anything. The only ones that have told us something are the actual groups and that was to showcase their little shiny costumes. Would you drop everything to go to a destination just to wear a costume? What is the schedule of events and where will these event be held? Why is the government holding this vital information as a state secret, do they not know themselves? If this is the level of organization attached to this event, it is already a failure. So comrade yes the event organizers are making themselves out to be clowns and not even good ones at that as nobody is laughing!
Look no farther than gas. Government taxes the hell out of gas and then you pay VAT on that. Legalized thievery by the Bahamian Mafia, better know as the government!
Although I do not subscribe to this carnival foolishness, I want it to work, for the simple fact we can not afford for it not to work. 9.5 million dollars of the peoples money can not be wasted. This is money that we do not have, it was borrowed and we are paying interest on it, think about that! These political croneys that are running this thing seem incompetent to say the least. Who is going to come to a carnival when no one knows anything about it. Where will it be held, what is the program of events, who is the entertainment? You want me to take time off work, buy a plane ticket, rent a hotel room, spend money on a costume, and I do not know whats going on? You think people are that free with their time and money, then you live in a different world. I tell you anything to do with the government of the Bahamas is a running joke! bunch of clowns!
Long lining is illegal in The Bahamas, but that means nothing if our Defense Force does not patrol and enforce the law. A couple years back and I bet to this day, you could see the long liners off of Abaco and Eluthera on a regular. Never heard of a long liner being caught and I doubt that our defense force even knows what they are. Laws without enforcement mean nothing therefore Bahamian laws are wutless! The Defense Force is all show and no results, like a paper tiger.
MadHatter, I am sure almost any decent contractor could have done a better job for half the price but then the politician and their croney would have to be cut out of the deal. We can not have that! How in the hell would these parasites survive if they could not feed off of the tit of The Bahamas treasury? How would the politician get elected if he was unable to "buy" his votes with public money? You have to understand, this is not about what is best for The Bahamas, this is about what is best for the politician and their croney, or as they should be know, the parasites!
So if the government is in charge of making laws AND enforcing laws, can private citizens SUE them for not upholding said laws? How about when they selectively enforce certain laws, as seems to be the case with the slimy fellow out west, can private citizens take the government to court and force their hand? The government of The Bahamas loves to enact laws but it does not enforce said laws. Our government makes us miserable on a daily basis I want to turn that around and make THEM miserable and hold their feet to the fire for a change. it is time to hold these politicians accountable!
The sad fact is that the people who should be enforcing the law as far as fisheries go, have no idea what the laws are or just do not care to enforce said laws. Right now you can probably go to any fish market and buy Grouper, never mind it is closed season. Daily you can see people spearing within one mile of New Providence and in the harbour and the police do nothing. You can find people cleaning undersized crawfish and grouper at will. If you go out a bit farther you can find people using air compressors in less than 30 feet of water and also using compressors to harvest conch. I have seen people spearing in area's that the tour boats take visitors. If the Harbour patrol was to do their job by the law they could fine or arrest dozens daily the way it is now but the sad fact is they do not do their job as it pertains to fisheries regulations and laws. Laws without enforcment mean nothing!
You can ask for the details all you want, they will not tell you. The agreements are a state secret just like anything the government does. We do not and will not get a Freedom of Information act anytime soon so, stick your questions in a pipe and smoke them. The Bahamian public does not deserve any explanation nor will it get one. The government will do as it pleases, so you citizens sit down and shut up! After all this is not about the peasant citizens, it is about the political elite and their interests. Actually, you are lucky the government gestapo does not arrest your hip for even asking questions.
I would also like to know how much time these boats spend on patrol of our southern border. All of them where in port for The Christmas while the Dominican boats where plundering our fish and lobster stocks. The billions of dollars that has been stolen out of the Bahamian waters over the years directly hurts our economy, yet the defense force can not seem to find these poachers. Funny how our fishermen come across them on a regular. We have invested many millions in The defense force and now Bahamians expect a return on that investment. It is time for the Defense Force to show results. As Sir Lynden said, fish, cut bait, or get the hell out of the boat!
Mr. Thompson, you and the rest of the Bahamas know that if what you allege is true there is one reason and one reason only why this man has not been deported. Money! We live in a most corrupt society and money rules the corrupt. Be careful good sir, money makes people do terrible things.
