The Nassau Guardian online is reporting that fish sales proceeded at Potter's Cay dock yesterday. What happened to the lockdown requiring people to stay off of the roads? Where were the police roadblocks? This type of slackness is not going to improve the confidence of the general public in the effectiveness of the preventative measures inconveniencing so many people.

This is a tough one to respond to in an abbreviated manner. Agriculture has been through many ups and downs in this country. Read your Bahamian history. After tourism and the financial industries started growing in the early 1960s the agricultural segment of the economy did not have the appeal of jobs perceived as more glamorous. Back then the population was much smaller as was the cost of living. So the importation of food was seen as the easy solution especially with a good inflow of foreign currency to pay for it. This is a classic example of not missing the water until the well runs dry.

Wouldn't it be interesting to hear how "they" intend to track down the so-called super spreaders? Or is not possible for the rest of us "mere mortals" to understand such plans?

You should see the lines at Harbour Bay outside Fresh Market and Lowe's Pharmacy. People in line talking about other shopping centres even more crowded.

DDK: Very kind of you to express concern about the suffering people of Abaco and Grand Bahama. The remainder of the country is beginning to feel the effects of what is called a national emergency that appears to be driving us backwards economically. How far back we will go is yet to be seen. However, the good people of Abaco and Grand Bahama are fully aware of the extent of the severe damage inflicted upon them. Think about power lines in your residential areas still on the ground 7 months after the storm. People buy ice from the food store sometimes every other day and hope that their generator continues to run and that they can continue to afford fuel for it.

Fred, you are right. It's going to be difficult to sell those
$50,000 new cars under the present circumstances.
