Further to my comments posted earlier today with reference to BPL in Marsh Harbour, I have to add that their crews appear to be scattered too widely and so are unable to complete the work required for a single area to be considered for reconnection. It is true that many buildings are in such terrible condition as to be ineligible for safe reconnection. However, there are a number of buildings in residential areas (such as mine) ready for reconnection after having been inspected by a
licensed electrician. Additionally, there are local people seeking rental properties relatively near to their own repair and reconstruction projects in the Marsh Harbour area. It is true that areas well to the south of Marsh Harbour have power but that is of little consolation to people like me who still use candles and a generator.

The answer is that you are thinking of a completely different person. Incidentally, I was listening to the radio a while ago and heard the BPL spokesman outlining the company's efforts in Marsh Harbour. Obviously he was reading from a script and has not been there himself. If they worked any more slowly they would be going in reverse. I have my doubts about ever having power restored to my property there.

Excuse me posting again so soon but being at home most of the day is very difficult. It appears that many people both inside and outside of government have not quite realized the extent of this unprecedented situation in which we find ourselves. I fear that numerous uncoordinated measures implemented to alleviate one perceived problem could lead to unforeseen consequences in other areas. There is little doubt that a prolonged period of lockdown will result in severe levels of unemployment from which it will be difficult to recover. As a result, our over reliance on tourism will finally be seen as an inherent weakness in the economy even by those who failed to recognise this reality earlier.

Please note that contrary to popular belief, not all "whites" are rich just as not all "blacks" are poor. The days of such gross simplification are long past. And, by the way, has anyone heard anything about the fate of Bahamasair and Western Air related to the resumption of air service to the Family Islands?

Very interesting and informative. The real value of this message is its warning about the damage to the economy resulting from a prolonged lockdown period. Very high unemployment levels cause incredible damage to any society. Of course, the loss of cruise ship passengers and stopover visitors is beyond the control of our government but the additional devastation resulting from an extended period of lockdown is. There is little doubt that the damage resulting from any extended period of enforced economic slowdown will be very serious.

I find myself hoping that this situation does not result in BPL ceasing work in Marsh Harbour in residential areas where they have erected new poles but have not yet completed installing insulators, lines and transformers where required. Things are bad enough without a further delay and uncertainty about a public power supply that can replace reliance upon private generators.

Amen to that brother. Abaco has been set back by at least forty years by hurricane Dorian. I am still waiting for BPL to complete their work in my area of Marsh Harbour. The soul has been torn out of a town that had been developing steadily for decades. What has happened to New Providence could be called a hurricane without the wind. Seeing Bay Street on Saturday with the shops shuttered was a sobering experience.

Interesting that while we lose tourists there are a number of flights crossing overhead on their way to destinations in Cuba. Some are from cities in Canada and others are from cities in western Europe. I should be interested to know if these aircraft are empty of passengers or occupied by actual tourists. You can check for yourself using a flight tracker like FlightRadar24.

Your observation must be correct. I walked downtown yesterday and saw the ships at the dock but the sidewalks were virtually deserted. A shop owner I spoke with remarked that the ships had only their crews aboard. The atmosphere was very strange when compared with normal times.
