I never implied that the displaced people would not or could not set up camp in my "backyard" but there has to be some clear understanding of the overall issues here. If the Government provides land and/or housing for people living in so-called "shanty towns" it is very likely that there will be an outcry from sections of the population who have not been accorded the same "courtesy".
When a problem has been allowed to grow with virtually no oversight for so long a period of time the difficulties only increase apace.
Most countries have unregulated housing problems in certain areas however much the people of that country, city or region may regret such a reality. Among some of the fundamental problems we can be point out are weak control of borders and a lack of political will. Just contrast the attitudes of the new Italian government with that of Spain's socialist crew.

All that I can say on this matter is that you are stirring up a wasps' nest when you talk about scattering people out of any so-called "shanty town". They could just as easily reappear in some vacant lot in your neighbourhood when least expected.

This sounds awfully like the now defunct ideas of the Abaco Independence Movement of the early 1970s.
Perhaps the writer would be so good as to inform us of his or her nationality and source of motivation.
Any promotion of the dismemberment of a sovereign nation is a serious matter and is not to be treated lightly.
In Spain the leader of the Catalonian independence movement headquartered in Barcelona is set to be extradited from Germany to face charges in Madrid for his part in fomenting the independence movement and the referendum last October 1st.
Many Bahamians should be quite offended by the ideas promoted in this letter.

Perhaps, but that dinosaur had teeth.

Catch yourself. All Bahamians are not ignorant. I can only assume that you are speaking of and for yourself.

The Bahamas has nothing to gain and lot to lose as a result of joining the WTO. The consequences of accession have not been described and explained adequately to the average citizen. Very likely most business people do not understand fully the ramifications of WTO accession.

A lot of speculation here. The TCAS system in the cockpit is supposed to provide early warning of other traffic within a radius of 40 nautical miles and within an envelope of 9,500 feet of altitude above and below the aircraft.
Audible warnings of "traffic, traffic", "descend", "increase climb", "clear of conflict", etc., will be provided by the system.
After the mid air collision between the DHL cargo flight and the Russian airliner carrying children to a holiday in Spain occurred above the German/Swiss border in 2001 the ruling was made for the crews to obey the commands emanating from their TCAS and to ignore instructions from the ground controller. As to what happened on Tuesday, that has yet to be clarified.

While there is no doubt that the standard of road safety is in need of improvement in this country and especially in certain of the Family Islands (which shall remain nameless) where there is no system in place to administer a practical driving test before the issuing of a licence, it would be informative for many of your readers to use YouTube to look at numerous videos out of Russia and China to see absolutely atrocious driving in action. Type in "crazy Russian drivers" to access an unlimited variety of scary scenes where many drivers are quite obviously under the influence of vodka or asleep at the wheel or both.

Interesting that "Socrates" should refer to airports in the above comment.
A classic example that I have seen is the Ciudad Real airport south of Madrid, Spain, which has never been used since construction was completed several years ago.
You can get a good view of the airport as you ride the high speed AVE train from Madrid south toward Seville or vice versa.

All over the world the rich hide their true income and worth behind a vast variety of smokescreens created by their very expensive attorneys specializing in such matters.
The truth is that the rich do not wish to contribute based upon their actual income which is seldom if ever declared in writing.
