Consider also that as a general rule the islands and cays used by the cruise industry for the entertainment of their clients are isolated and difficult of access for the average Bahamian without their own boat.
That is not to says that these islands and cays should be surrendered to foreign interests without some benefit to be derived for the country as a whole.
A rational question worthy of consideration is related to the potential for Bahamian employment during this planned big investment in improvements on the various cays.
Or will the cruise lines be allowed to import all their own labour and materials without any Bahamians being allowed to participate?

Why so jittery? For the simple reason that the imposition of an income tax requires a large (and presumably expensive) government bureaucracy to manage it as well as the fact that tax evasion is an art in which the rich will demonstrate their expertise with the help of foreign experts in tax avoidance.
Income tax would not be so bad if the rich were willing to pay their fair share but that is very unlikely to be the case here where the political class will call a payroll withholding tax an "income tax" while their class declares very little income that is not hidden on the company's books or shielded by nominee shareholders, etc.

PM Minnis needs some solid and popular acts to make up for the errors committed with the OBAN deal.
Personally I don't like illegal immigration for a number of reasons and I recall how my papers had to be in order when arriving in North America or Europe so I cannot tolerate the idea of people being allowed into a country without permission and the proper documentation.
It is so unfair to the legal residents who pay taxes and try to have some pride in and hope for their country.
Some commentators and critics say that the idea behind the promotion of illegal immigration by some liberal politicians is to undermine (in Spanish "socavar") and weaken the concept of nationality and national borders.

I wonder if this way of handling illegal immigrants will make the news in Italy where they are being flooded with illegal migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea with the help of so-called rescue ships.
These ships, operated by non governmental organizations (NGOs), pick up the illegal immigrants a few miles off the coast of Libya in North Africa and then, instead of returning them the few miles to the shores of Libya, they transport them hundreds of miles north to the shores of either mainland Italy or the island of Sicily. It is a stupid situation and has resulted in political changes in the Italian election of Sunday, March 4th.

Exactly.
I made a similar comment related to an earlier news story and video in which people were heard commenting on the Caribbean Sea flowing over Eleuthera Island and somebody tried to make fun of my correction.
Perhaps this serves to show that some people don't know and don't want to know.
They prefer to look uneducated and foolish.

WTO accession for this country is the kiss of death for local businesses.
Government is taking advantage of the fact that the average Bahamian does not read and has no idea what such accession really means.
A country like the Peoples' Republic of China with a large labour pool and manufacturing base, etc., has benefited greatly from WTO membership since 2001.
Our small and labour expensive country will only end up losing.

Please note that both the east and west coasts of Eleuthera Island are firmly in contact with the North Atlantic Ocean.
The Caribbean Sea is south of Cuba, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico.
Some of those people who posted those 'phone videos to You Tube can be heard talking about the "Caribbean Sea". running across the island into the Atlantic Ocean.
How embarrassing that they are geographically challenged.

A lot of you do not realize that this government was caught by surprise on election day 2017. They were not certain of wining the election and so were caught with a hastily thrown together slate of candidates most of whom ended up being elected, probably to their own considerable surprise.
Now we see that there never was any real plan to improve the situation of the common people, perhaps with the exception of illegal immigrants.
Like someone commented only recently: when the fire occurred in the shantytown on January 28th in Marsh Harbour, the PM was up there in a hurry.
When the same community was suffering incredible power cuts a few weeks later he was not in town.
Maybe he remembered what the late Sir Lynden used to say when there was a problem" :"Handle it".

You are right there, brother. Look up "functional illiteracy" on Wikipedia and see that Italy is listed at the top of the ranking with 47% of the population included in that category.
Wow! With youth unemployment in the 35% range, government corruption, organized crime all over the country and masses of illegal immigrants being ferried into Sicily and mainland Italy by the shipload by the Non Governmental Organizations, it is no wonder that they are expecting some big political changes in the upcoming elections.
We are not the only ones with troubles.

In today's Nassau Guardian on- line there is an excellent "Letter to the Editor" dealing with this situation. The writer is seemingly well versed in the area of Constitutional Law and presents a clear statement of the position in immigration matters.
