A documentary I was watching yesterday claimed that the acting president of Haiti called for international assistance on October 8, 2022. This was news to me but I do recall previous international interventions in 1994 and possibly 2008. The problem of lawlessness, overpopulation and disorder goes way back. The late Fidel Castro wrote about seeing Haitians being deported from Santiago in Oriente province when he was a boy. He referred to the Law of National Labour designed to limit the number of non Cuban workers on a job site. Many people are unaware of the terrible massacres related to the "Parsley War" of the late 1930s when Rafael Trujillo was dictator of the Dominican Republic. The problem is wide and deep and requires a multi faceted approach starting with the political will to accomplish something. France should be invited to take a leading role in tackling the issues.
Why are we repeatedly shown this photo of a brand new, pristine, probably unoccupied dome presumably somewhere in New Providence? There should be photos somewhere of the actual situation of the occupied domes placed side by side along the main entrance road leading into Spring City just a few miles south of the Leonard Thompson International Airport in Marsh Harbour. Those domes are gone now but they were mighty close together with lots of vehicles parked alongside and lots of laundry drying in the sun. People in New Providence who have not visited Central Abaco recently have no idea of the true situation as regards the critical lack of housing and the inconvenience of so many businesses having disappeared in the wake of the disaster of September 2019.
My dear fellow, one can never be absolutely certain of the future track of a tropical storm. Hurricane Betsy in 1965 played a dirty trick on us and on Miami. Only someone who did not experience "Dorian" in the flesh, so to speak, can find fault with a sense of anxiety and a surplus of caution. Like my late father used to tell my brother and myself, you boys are curious about a hurricane because you have never seen what such a storm can do. After you have seen one you will not be anxious to see another. He was a wise man.
Not only is Inagua spelled incorrectly, but also the word Colombian. There is no "U" in the word. By the way, Inagua is a fine place. So different from the northwest islands.
Truly a voice crying in the wilderness. Very brave stance as well. Those of us who have read history at the university level and continue to be "avid readers" will recognize the essence of what is written here. As for the rest, they swallow propaganda wholesale with little ability to discern the facts. The Ukrainian people are being sacrificed perhaps without truly understanding what led to this situation. Students of history know that one of the primary reasons for the Japanese attack upon Pearl Harbour in December of 1941 was the damage being done to their economy resulting from sanctions imposed upon the Japanese as a result of their invasion of Manchuria as far back as 1931. Sanctions imposed upon a country for whatever reason, can have consequences far beyond their intended effect. I remain impressed by the late General and former U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower's Farewell Address in which he warned against the potential power and influence of what he called the "military-industrial complex". Being a general and a former President, I believe that he knew what he was talking about.
Thank you for your response to my comment of yesterday. I suggested that you consult the very prophetic lectures referred to in that comment. I don't have a horse in this race, as they say, and while I regret the suffering that occurs during armed conflict, I must, in all honesty, remind you that many civilians lost their lives during the invasions of other sovereign nations such as Panama (December, 1989), the Dominican Republic (April, 1965), the island of Grenada (1983?), Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, etc. The point is that if a person refers only to the aspects of an event that support their political perspective they have to expect some push back from an informed reader. I trust that after you watch some of the professor's lectures, you come away with a somewhat broader understanding of the underlying issues.
Very one sided article. Look up the NATO Bucharest Declaration of 2008. Also, have a look at the very prophetic lectures by Professor John Mearsheimer. These lectures date from 2015 and are available in their entirety on YouTube. There are two sides to every situation.
Yes, big pharma now has to compete with the Russian military for space on newscasts. Please be aware that, as Winston Churchill said, in war the first casualty is truth. The reality and background of the present conflict is far more complex than the western media would have you believe.

In case you haven't noticed, many Haitians are in residence here without visas or any paperwork for that matter. Just saying.
