More rubbish to set people crazier than they are already. Come the new year there won't be much to laugh about.

Is it only me or do I detect a distinct lack of sympathy for the plight of our old friend Mr. Miller?

Tantos insultos! Such ad hominen attacks are unnecssary. No one has the ability to stop the spread of what appears to be an unstoppable virus with somewhat mysterious origins. Gradually it will fade away leaving behind a tremendous amount of damage. We have to be alert to economic uncertainty and pressures resulting in military adventurism.

Sounds good but far too late when one remembers that this is an old story that might impress young and inexperienced people. Older heads have heard it all before and can recall how little was done to encourage the agricultural and fishing sectors of the economy. Perhaps the reason for the neglect was the desire to levy import duties on imported food products.

Sounds awfully like the dreaded CDR (Comite para la defensa de la revolucion) organization in Cuba under the Castro brothers. Most people feel somewhat uncertain about informing on others. Of course, we are told that in this instance it is a good and laudable act. Problem is, no government will step down and admit that the spread of the virus cannot be stopped. Only time will see it fade away gradually. What condition our poor country will be in by that time is best left to the imagination. What a nightmare!

If the government is indeed "working feverishly to revive the economy" then I must suggest that they check the thermometer they are using!

The bottom line is that once the economy collapses completely then disorder follows with many rats deserting the sinking ship. There is not a government in the world that knows what to do in this situation. It is very likely that no government in this country has ever held a cabinet meeting during which planning for this present scenario was ever discussed or even considered. Like the old saying goes, you don't miss the water until the well runs dry. Wrong or ineffective actions now can result in a much worse outcome in the end.

Very sad indeed. Who remembers the five lightning deaths occurring about August 21, 1991? Two in North Eleuthera, one in Cooper's Town, Abaco, one at the private aircraft parking area of the airport in Nassau and I believe one more but I can't recall the details. I have had a few close calls myself and I can assure you that you can't predict how lightning will behave.

Last week it was apparent that the phone number for the police office in the government complex was missing from the sign at the foot of the staircase leading up to their office. I remember that the number was clearly written on the sign at some time in the past.

Did I read the words "alien invasion"? Come on fellas, let's get real here. That invasion took place years ago.
