There is no way that the Government should now be sticking their big nose into this matter now to save face. You had your chance before and failed! Claiming that you didn't know is no excuse. The entire Cabinet should have resigned by now. As much as I feel for the workers at Baha Mar, the country should not be committed to paying the salaries for a private employer, especially after the employer has already set in motion plans to do do so for at least the next 30 days. At least Mr. Ingraham is partly vindicated from this whole mess. He always thought this this project should have been done in phases. Call him what you want but the man had good instincts for sniffing out potentially bad deals and more common sense than the entire 'Gold Rust' team put together. And don't think that this situation will serve as a good distraction from all of the other PLP mishaps! Bahamians are still waiting on:
1. The identity of the bribe-taker in the BEC affair 2. The complete accounting of the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival 3. Who authorised Renward Wells to sign the LOI 4. Why the Government allowed the good people of Marathon to continue to be poisoned by spilled fuel for over a year after receiving a report 5. A complete explanation from the AG as to why a former client of hers was granted a nolle prosequi by that uncaring MP from Marathon while she was conveniently out of the country 6. A complete report of the BAMSI scandal 7. Explanations for all the other PLP scandals too numerous to list
What a wonderful and well written article that's refreshing in light of all the bad news that is dominating the headlines this week! I didn't know you were already so close to 40 wisdom-filled years since you still look like a teenager in your pic. I hope as many people as possible can read this article as it reads like a blueprint for life in general for everyone. Some say life really begins at age 40, so Happy Birthday and congratulations to you Miss Burrows on reaching this milestone in your life.
Seems like the Government may have been caught with their pants down. They were touting this imminent resolution to the Baha Mar situation over the last couple days, then Sarkis Izmirlian pulls out this unexpected trump card from his unopened casino and says, "Booyah"! Hey Mr. Christie and Obie, you didn't expect this resolution huh! Now go find that 2% to pay those BTC workers their proper severance on Tuesday.
We don't need anymore developments along this strip. Let's try to finish what's building now and let the dust settle on that before we start talking about more development. It just feels like Bahamians are being squeezed more and more from the few enjoyable places left on this island. The Goodman's Bay area is fine as it is now. Try to propose these things for some of the other Family Islands that really need the economic injection. At some point we have to slow down all this development as the island is only so big!
Just add this to the list of investigations that we will never hear anything about ever again. Our 'sweep everything under the rug' Attorney General probably tossed this in her garbage can as soon as she got it. Then PGC will give us some long-winded diatribe of excuses a few months from now when the media asks for an update on the 'investigation'. Bradley Roberts will fire off about how these same things occurred under the Arawaks, Woodes Rogers, the UBP and the FNM. Leslie Miller will go on about how the Mayaguana island administrator didn't pay his light bill but then he will backtrack on that statement the following day.
If I'm one of those companies vying for that management contract, I would seriously reconsider. I would not touch B.E.C. with a 10 foot pole unless I'm taking ownership of the company like Leslie Miller said. These foreign entities do not know what they are getting into. The Union will have the winning company running from this country with their tail between their legs in a few years. They will spend most of the time fighting with the Union and eventually conceding to Union demands because the Government will always cave in and back the Union because of votes. Lower electricity costs will become a myth. Remaining Bidders, you've been warned! It's not too late to cut your losses now and pack up and go home.
As I see it, the Bahamas is in the same predicament as many other countries around the world that sat back during the good times and did nothing about illegal immigration. When the economies of Europe, the United States and even the Bahamas was booming, tackling illegal immigration was not even a thought in anybody's mind. Now when the great recession hit and people realized that they were competing with illegal immigrants for jobs and basic services, everybody suddenly became incensed about it. This problem should have been nipped in the bud when it first started. Now we have to deal with it in a humane way. Going to the United States to complain to a set of people that are dealing with the same issue does nothing to help us. I support the government in continuing their efforts to stem this tide in a humane and legal way. These men are just blowing things out of proportion to stir up trouble.
Pleeeassse! We can't even prosecute obvious criminal activity like murder by our own people, much less money laundering. So People, please stop saying that the Bahamas is a Christian nation, because we are not! To suggest otherwise is blasphemous.
The amount of scandals going on in this country is simply unbelievable! The sad part to all of this is that many of our fellow citizens will be voting for these same clowns whenever the next election is called. I guess if a 'flock of sheep' can continue to follow a man that God said he should have a $65 million dollar jet to "spread the gospel", anything is possible.
BTC Chairman Phil Bentley is a smart man. He happily conceded to replacing Geoff Houston with Leon Williams because he knew this downsizing exercise was coming. And he made the idiot PLPs think that they got back majority shares in BTC. Now all the PLPs cannot blame the white man for BTC workers losing their jobs. They can look squarely at one of their own (Leon Williams) and blame him and their incompetent PLP government who, according to them, have majority shares and thus, technically are able to stop this downsizing exercise. But of course, as usual, they backtracked and said they are not responsible for the running of BTC.
