All this means is that whatever the future outcome for Freeport is, it's going to become an even more expensive place for the ordinary Bahamian to live. Everyone is viewing Freeport as a place to extract money from. Under the current economic climate, Freeport will only be successful if it is developed as a larger version of Albany that caters to high-end foreign and local residents with lots of disposable income. Rich people would be willing to pay higher taxes for a clean city that is well-managed and have activities that they like such as golf. Unfortunately, the ordinary Bahamian would be forced to live outside of Freeport, commuting there only to work.
Mr. Christie likes to go in front of the cameras and make these outrageous statements when he nor anyone in his party have an inkling of how the real business world works. No bank is going to make lower tier creditors financially whole out of the goodness of their heart. Get real! Mr. Dionisio D'Aguilar did state that due to the high debt burden of Baha Mar, more than likely only Chinese entities would take on this debt burden in order to get some kind of concessionary low rate loans or benefits from the China motherland. And this does seem to be the case. If we had believed Prime Minister Christie, Baha Mar should be opening sometime in the next few weeks right before Christmas. "Tings gon' be dead good soon!" Yes in 2017.
Mr. Roberts has a point. The insurance industry is as profit-driven as the Canadian banks. I don't trust the industry any more than I trust any government to set-up and manage 'Bahamacare'. I would prefer to see a quasi-governmental organization with an independent Health Czar put in place with different stakeholders from the various sectors employed to oversee and manage a NHI program for the Bahamas with the aim of reducing costs, waste and cronyism in the entire scheme. Otherwise, it would be like putting lipstick on a pig.
Ever since Mrs. Butler-Turner b**ch-slapped Mr. Rollins, the latter has been spewing good political commentary and ideas ever since. Maybe if we line up all of our politicians and have Mrs. Butler-Turner slap each one of them we could have a better-managed Country.
Which is it 12 weeks, 12 months or 12 years? Can't this government get anything right??!! Mr. chief architect Livingston Forbes, please know that you have been royally thrown under the bus. And Bahamian people, please don't let this BAMSI situation get quietly pushed under the rug while the Baha Mar situation dominate the headlines. When is the BAMSI Contractor going to pay the Bahamian people back our money? We are waiting for answers!!!
Why don't you run for a seat in the next General Election? I could overlook the fact that you are a lawyer if you stay clean and keep putting forth great ideas that could work.
Nicole, I think that you and anyone else with a shred of honesty and decency who wants to salvage what's left of their Bahamian lives should get off this sinking ship as soon as possible. This is a place where only those that have money and connections can insulate themselves from the daily shenanigans that go on and enjoy all the spoils. The rest of us can only hope for better for ourselves and our family while we keep looking behind our backs, trying to avoid becoming the next crime victim. If they were to ever do another movie on the George Orwell novel 'Animal Farm', the perfect location to shoot it would be the Bahamas.
Yet certain PLP members are swearing on their mamas' graves that Baha Mar will be opened before the end of the year which suggests to me that the PM has already slipped Justice Winder a note 'recommending' what his rulings should be with regards to this debacle.
Anyone that votes PLP after this needs to have a 'psychological test'!
PS: Nygard has been pretty quiet lately. Perhaps he now realizes hat he has been bamboozled and hoodwinked by the swing train Generals who says, "thanks for that election campaign donation. We still working on that stem cell thing for you!"
