Bishop delton is sounding off about defending democracy but who democratically voted for him to become a bishop or to join the so called Christian council. If the religious churchmen want to get involved in politics then their privileged tax free status must be revoked. Let them pay import duty on their stuff like the rest of us, let them pay business license taxes like any other business and lastly let the Price control commission set the amount of money they can charge the grieving survivors to bury their loved ones. Self-serving hypocrites probably exist in some political circles but the same may be true for religious circles.

Mu good friend was shot dead one Saturday afternoon on Village road several years ago. The killers were arrested and then released and unless someone has done the country a favour and shot them, they are still walking around free today. My friend is still cold in his grave. The police are mostly inept and bereft of the right training and equipment. The court system is even worse but not yet as bad as Nigeria. There is no hope for improvement in the near future.

in England in the 18th century major cities were as full of gin shops selling cheap gin as Nassau today is full of "web shops" aka unlicensed gambling dens. So most all the city dwellers were drunk most of the time, literally from cradle to (early) grave. The English government only got a handle on the problem by restricting, licensing, and regulating the gin houses which metamorphosed into the modern day pub with restricted opening hours. The Bahamas government must do the same to protect that large segment of the population who do not understand the principles of simple mathematics and think they can actually win some money playing numbers or spinning. Cashing a pay check in a numbers house is the worst idea I've heard since Perry put Shameless in charge of the hurricane relief money.

Oracle. You are quite correct. Rotary lowered it's standards several years ago in order to increase membership numbers. Quantity became more important than quality. The end result is that damaged-goods politicians like Christie are given honorary membership, high ranking Rotarians are given plum positions in government organisations, and previous members of the house like Galanis are invited to speak on a very partisan political topic. Shame really because Rotary used to be an organisation based on integrity as well as service.
