Rose Island still has the remains of a salt pond constructed to produce sea salt on a small scale. It was not economically feasible and fell into disuse many decades ago. It can be seen on the western side of the circular canal known as the doughnut.
This has been coming for decades. Sir Etienne Dupuch used to write over and again that a people get the government that they deserve. We have elected stupid and corrupt people to be our government since indepencence, Does this mean we are a stupid and corrupt people? I hope not for my grandchildren's sake.
Wow, thank you Realitycheck. Felix Stubbs? The prominent member of Rotary who was later appointed to director of NIB. Coincidently under his watch the former Prime Minister was granted honouree membership of Rotary. Obviously these events were totally unconnected. although I do think Mr. Stubbs should do the right thing and resign membership of an organization that prides itself on service above self and not self serving behaviour. Mr. Stubbs would not of course engage in any self serving behaviour but just the possibility of the perception should prompt action. Caesar's wife and all that. Of course we expect this sort of thing from ex-plp ministers so Alfred is in the right place.
A National lottery is the winning idea, but only if the government can find a Bahamian civil servant who is both smart enough and honest enough. The web houses thrive on the gambling addiction which is fed by the shot of endorphin released with the placing of the bet and the revelation of the winning number. If the lottery is pulled once a week it may produce enough of a maintenance dose of endorphin to allow the gambling addict to have a productive life. An endorphin hit every 30 minutes like the 3-ball provides is probably more addictive than smoking cigarettes.
