So we have a "Financial services" firm that admitted to criminal wrongdoing. It is has been non-compliant for two years in terms of regulated capital. It is insolvent and has been for over a year, and it is still not in liquidation??????????????????????????
And you wonder why our financial services are declining? We are a Mickey Mouse, Banana Republic outfit with paper tiger regulators who do squat.
Of course, we have a reputation as a lax, wink-wink jurisdiction already, and you wonder why our second pillar is crumbling so rapidly?
You want to change the immigrant problem? Stop giving out the thousands of work permits for manual labour. If an undocumented person can't get a job here, then it would slow down the flow of illegals. Far too many Bahamians are eager to employ people on a cash basis with no questions asked, for manual labour. You still hear the term "My Haitian".
And speaking of work permits, I once ventured into a perfume shop on Bay Street, looking for olfactory goods that would help me woo a woman that I was in lust with. I was met by smarmy foreigner with a fake ingratiating attitude that was highly offputting. Swallowing the little vomit in my mouth, I engaged him in conversation. We got to talking and he told me that he was here (for years) on a work permit, as he was an expert perfume sales manager. FF Sakes. I'm no fan of Bahamianization, but a perfume sales manager expert?
(The damn perfume didn't work either. She was hoping for a lawyer who was a lil redder -- for da kids sake. Glad I lost that romantic battle.)
>And yes our black leaders have fallen short too. I'm sure none of them believe the police will grab their emails, that's why they tabled the Nazi communications bill last week
That's a great point. Suppose in the next election, the Rum Row, Eastern Road White Party got into power. Would the PLP dare introduce this bill knowing that?
Birdie, you can't stand the truth so you impugn the messenger. I dare you to refute a single thing with facts that Bruce says. You cannot. You are a pox on our country, and if you were on fire, and I had water -- I would drink it.
My respect for Brent just went down the tubes. What a dickwad! As for the Pussy-Grabber-in-Chief, Donald Trump, he is a sexual predator, a serial liar, and a narcissist with a Grade 4 vocabulary. And Brent would have voted for him? Says a lot about Brent's moral compass.
Loretta thought that she would grow on the DNA and they would take her on as leader with Bran bringing her coffee in eternal gratitude for being made a Senator. Well she did grow on the DNA, but it was like a wart. Completely excised.
While I was at a foreign university, for the first year, just to get acclimatized to the country, I boarded with a couple. We were connected by the student office. The woman is a remarkable woman. She is a student mentor, a member of the board of governors, and she lives within 10 minutes of the main campus. She calls me her second son, or her Bahamian son. She recently stopped sending me birthday cards through the post because they were always three months late, or they never came at all. Funny how the Bahamas post office knew when she put in a $20 or $50 dollar bill. Those ones never came.
For business, I speak only on a landline or by encrypted email. I turn my cell phone off at the airport and whilst in the vicinity of the Chinese and American embassies. Many a time, I have had to drive to Million Air to meet a private jet. A personal would step off and give me printed portfolio instructions. The beneficial owner did not trust electronic transmission by any means.
