The socio-economic fabric of our society is torn with single mothers with babies from multiple fathers. We have at least two generations of poorly socialised children -- children raising children -- all at the lower socio-economic classes, and you get excoriated for pointing out the problem??? The language used was indelicate but accurate.
So why is the government buying all of these new cars? The number is enough to significantly raise new car sales in the Bahamas. Why? On a small island, why so many cars?
I have an inkling of the plans of some of the FNM candidates. Minnis supports them all, seeks consensus widely and gives subject matter experts their head in formulating reasonable policy. I am blown away by the policy and plans that transformative candidates are putting together to save the country. The only issue that I have, is that they are either bad at communication, or they are holding off announcements until the election writ is dropped.
I agree that there are a lot of Bahamian owned condos for the simple reason that there really is no place for Bahamians with money to invest. BISX is a moribund place without a level playing field. Your returns are limited if you buy government bonds. There is an investment load in going to the American markets. So real estate is one of the last venues for professional Bahamians that generate a lot of Bahamian dollars (thinking doctors, accountants et al).
I however know of many foreign-owned condos (especially on PI) where the owners have not even been to the Bahamas in years, but they generate monthly revenues (homes for the American yacht crews for the uber rich), AirBnB rentals, and a lot of rentals on websites in their home countries where the entire money transaction takes place outside the country. They have a reliable, well-paid maid to clean up after each occupancy who also does double duty of providing keys on arrival.
Wow, I am impressed. That means that we have full employment. Hallelujah!! All that it took was selling the country to the Chinese and lining PLP pockets.

Nahhh ... Tuesdays is out. It is Steam Mutton dinner night at Checkers. And da soup is Bean 'n dumpling. The other nights its peas 'n dumpling and I don't like peas 'cept in peas 'n rice with lots of rice and not many peas and not a lot of erl in da peas 'n rice.
I would, and I probably would enjoy it. But I took the pledge at the lodge. It was the Soar-Like-An-Eagle Patriots Lodge. It was a 12 step programme to stay away from crabs (or was that crabbies -- I think that I heard crabs right). Not only must I refrain from consorting and intercourse with PLP's, but should I visit a hospital and if a PLP is on life support, my pledge compels me to unplug the machine so that I can charge my phone and text my lodge brothers. So mote it be. Abracadabra and all of that lodge stuff.
