This whole thing stinks to high heavens. Sands is calling it a soft opening. Are they going to employ some people for awhile and let the place be in limbo with no guests???
This doesn't sound like a sound business proposition. Is this a re-election ploy for optics until after the election?
Why aren't Tribune reporters asking these questions?
We are hamstrung by a non-convertible currency and currency restrictions. Also there is a lack of access to capital by Bahamian entrepreneurs. We do not even have a totally functioning credit bureau and credit rating agency, which is a pre-cursor to capital availability for entrepreneurs. Our ease of doing business is dismal compared to world benchmarks, and we have a high barrier of entry, with up-front, expensive business licencing.
The entire economy of the Bahamas is unsuited to entrepreneurship, and we still have cabinet ministers talking about FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) as drivers of the economy, where everyone else in the world realises that SME and entrepreneurship among the populace is the biggest factor in local economic success.
The entire system needs to be gutted, and no one has the intestinal fortitude to call it like it is and make it so.
So if Marion Bethel is a champion of women's rights and Bahamians, what is she doing being married to a PLP minister? Palacious is a PLP supporter. It is the PLP that created this socio-economic mess, and her husband is contaminated by the PLP criminality. This is typical hypocrisy and lack of cognitive dissonance that is shot throughout Bahamian society. Cannot this woman see that it is the party that her husband hopes to head, that has campaigned against equality for women the first time around???????????????? Sigh ... there is no hope for this country.

Just a few months ago, he was predicting $70-$100 million in fund-raising activity during the 2017 *first quarter* with equity securities set to generate full-year returns of 10-15 per cent. Now he says that it will be *slow* until after the election.
I resent him calling himself a banker. He is giving us a bad name.
I bet that Neville Wisdom will get a contrack to get a pile of apprentices to make granny-underwear Christmas decorations for next Christmas for Arawak Cay. He will get about $40 million to do it.
