You are absolutely correct. Economic offset means new dollars coming in. There has been no GDP impact if there was not at least 70,000 tourist spending at least $1000 each or 35,000 tourists spending $2000 each (to make the 70 million).
Sticky fingers Ortland now sees that Brave doesn't have a chance, so he is now chanting his mea culpas in a hollow, insincere manner to try and get on the gravy train. This psalm-singing donkey is no better than the rest of them.
I don't know why we stand for such cronyism and corruption? We are truly a third world country. The level of criminality among the politicians is so blatant and yet no one does anything. The police are corrupt and complicit in this thievery from the public purse, and no body gives a damn. Why is this piece not on the front page ????
Nobody answers emails in the Bahamas. It is too complicated for their simple brains. All their brain cycles are taken up by trying to figure out how to screw each other (figuratively & literally).
We hold on to outdated economic models. The money hidey-hole called financial services is dead and gone. The sun, sand and sea tourism is dead. The Stafford Sands Economic model is dead. It is as if we don't want to learn anything else. The other factor is the massive stupidity, criminality, and treason of the PLP government, who's chief aim is to enrich themselves while in power is to blame.
I am reminded of when Hubiggety wanted to make eCommerce the third pillar of the economy, and the retards like Crisco Butt and the PLP campaigned against it. Jamaica transitioned to a knowledge based economy with their two technology parks, and they attracted business from the Bahamas when Scotiabank moved their call center there.
I was stunned at the level of high technology and knowledge industry going on in Jamaica today. This advert blew me away:

Analytics and Big Data are the highest paying jobs now in the knowledge industries, and I was gobsmacked to see that these skills are being used in Jamaica of all places. We have really lost our way and will never be able to catch up!
The reverse is true. One must tackle poverty to reduce crime. Proven time & time again in socio-economic studies -- direct correlation between poverty and crime. People do not commit crimes when they are not marginalized by poverty (or society). Right now, whole swaths of Bahamians are economically marginalized by a monolithic economy and shrinking middle class.
Jeeze, this guy changes his mind as often as a jungliss panties go up and down. A couple of weeks ago, he was sayin' that our sovereignty is at stake, and we should do what we wanna do and to hell with the OECD and dems.
And, as a non-sequitor, he should change the name of his company. The last Bahamian company using the word Dominion in it, was shut down by the FBI and Tremblay, the Canadian who now lives on PI, went to the big house for several years courtesy of the FBI and the SEC.
Here are some questions that come to mind about the government's SPV's:
(1) Is the Resolve SPV being used to continue the charade of BoB's non-compliance with the Central Bank's key capital ratios?
(2) Is the Resolve bond to BoB under-performing, and if so, are the taxpayers paying the bond payments to BoB?
(3) Is there provision for illiquidity and winding down of the Resolve SPV and if so, is the government on the hook to transfuse cash to keep BoB afloat?
(4) Why is there no regulatory prosecution of the Government's failure to get Central Bank approval for the Resolve SPV as defined by section 3 (a) of the Banks and Trust Companies (Equity Investments) Regulations 2005?
(5) Why is BoB allowed to operate in violation of key capital ratio requirements? Shouldn't someone go to jail and BoB be wound down?
(6) Why is not Resolve suing the parties who took out the toxic loans?
(7) What are the legal provisions for the SPVs when they are in default? Is there a winding down or does the Treasury or government guarantees them. If the conditions are such that the government guarantees them, then shouldn't those conditions be gazetted as in a normal, non-corrupt democracy?
Somebody should be going to jail, and Crisco Butt should resign.
