Meaning they are not going to change this antiquated unfair business license system. I guess just like government income they see business income as all profit. No need to account for costs.
Can fix pot holes, keep the power on, books and toilet paper in schools but, we gonna punish people for a product that has no THC the compound in hemp that makes you high. Glad our priorities are in order. Meanwhile them number houses paying their taxes like good business people. What a joke.
Since WTO is all about competition and rules, and opening up ourselves to the world and joining the world community, and most favored nation status, I say upon joining anyone in the world should be able to come to the Bahamas and run for political office. That way like everything else we might get the best and cheapest politicians. Let the politicians compete on the world stage like they want the rest of us to do. Well see how fast they continue down this path if this were the case.
Bahamian business should absolutely be scared of competition. When electricity doesn't work and cost 4 times more, water doesn't work, phones don't work. High speed internet is a joke, can't access foreign capital, can't use PayPal, amazon, or internet services, can't open up a bank accounts without giving a dna sample, a first born child, and the colour of your house, if you have a bank on your island. Our government struggles to fix roads and put books and toilet paper in the schools. Businesses waste valuable time and resources dealing with out to lunch, gone to pickup their children, and come back tomorrow government workers. Registering a company costs more than almost anywhere else on Earth. Businesses license is based in gross income not profits. The list is almost endless. Yes we should all fear outside competition when we are so hamstrung by the government.
Can't accept PayPal payments. Can't sell stuff on Amazon. Can't take credit card payments. Hell can't even get high speed internet on the most developed islands. Of course business can't make the most of the internet. Reliable running water and electricity are still a struggle. This is what makes us joining the WTO and competing on a world stage such a joke. Emperor's new clothes! All we have is a bunch of poppy shows running us on both sides.
Many of the Bahamas economic woes can be solved without the WTO and joing the WTO without fixing the problems currently hindering our economic growth, many of which are mentioned above will be a disaster.
There is only so much money in the economy and 100% vat won't be enough. The government must reduce it's size and become more efficient. More taxes will not help. Time to take the tough decision and reduce the government bloated pig.
