Way past time for the Govt to go after the some 29% in Bahamas trade in fraudulent invoices and fraud of that sort that Financial Secretary Marlon Johnson had raised abbout a year ago and he somehow became silent on that.
Everyone have known for years and years of persons ducking or commiting fraud to avoid paying Customs duties or rightful taxes from persons with invoices at airport to trailers.
Then after holes in this evolved, is the Vat to augment revenue, then the next Vat to augment the previous Vat which was to augment collevtion of porous Customs duties holes.
simple solution instead of pussyfooting, beating around the bushes, is for a govt, is to start jailing those caught at the beginning at the porus tax collection and those merchants ridiculously inflated gouging priced items.
While the Davis ppermutations and combinations of any savings proposes likely to be spent wasted acquiring other part of hill if not already in Palmetto for Hospital and knocking down the hill just to leave a hole.
"A risk-management specialist"......"warned the Bahamas will soon have to "face the music' and implement...."
Weeeeell monkey oncle, this coming from the former Central Bank employee and later senior former Bank of the Bahamas Executive from all those years of service.....300M to some 500M millions of taxpayers dollars somehow gotten into the bank by politicians despite thousands of Private shareholders to prop up this bank. Frankly if the taxpayers had invested these hundreds of millions of dollars into any other areas, taxpayers would not be as broke ass now and nobody held responsible risk approvals for all those politians loans gone bad. (300M taxpayers money invested into Amazon Shares would have been nice.)And noone responsible for front pages expose by former Central Bank Governor James Smith who exposed money paid for collateral worth a lot less.
The Bahamas would not be in this downward spiral if the curruption of past and present regressive taxation had more accountabilities and persons held responsible for wastages etc, and punishing curruption. Taxpayers are tired, tired, tired and vexed at new systems being imposes to correct shortcomings of past tax systems.
@Tell_it_like_it_is. There are likely to be countless other reasons of just beating persons just for "fun". And @SP. The systemic system has been to wait a few weeks JUST before Political Elections called for the governing party to then have the widespread Police Promotions done. Indeed. Time for the system of Police Force Promotions to be chànged not to coincide closely before Elections but closely done according to Merits of the Officer and requirements of the Department(s) to be à more effective and continuous fluid efficient force. Putting masses of promotions At one time tended to be bizarre when the results have more top indian chiefs and few indians. Lol.
@Tribanon. You have it correct on the Minister of Education on "the audacity and termenity to blame these struggling parents for his very own failings.' We all should know that he refuses to point his fingers at his fellow Ministers failings to eliminate gangs influencing school children, failings of the Defence Force in stopping influx of undocumented migrants children into schools, children in abject grinding poverty living in illegal shantytowns, immigration dept having parents deported and not accounting for children, Immigration dept having children in schools graduating before age 18 and without papers, and the list of shortcomings of othetr govt dept which negatively impact the lives of getting education. The Minister ought to know better than to solely blame the parents.
'"The home must do its part. Parents must do their part. There is no other way."
Therein lies the problem, that the Minister fails to understand that most of these homes are not from the textbook he is using. Homes are not the ideal textbook of one married couple, a father and a mother with 2 children. Homes do not have the father present, and many even have the grandmother trying to raising the children. The reality picture is different from the Minister's picture.
Here we go again!!!! "If it wins the next general election"
The Opposition members are paid monthly salaries to put up the fierce sensible critical needed arguments to represent the people. If their arguments are well and valid for all to see as Opposition, then they would be more favoured opportunity to win the electorate and become the next government. Having to inform the electorate to wait for their greater scheme food for survival all these coming monnths or year to vote them in, is not a good plan. People need to eat today. Whose brillance is to have electorate, or, 'hungry Bahamian families' be needing food all these coming months and then able to vote for them????
Send the full cost of the expenses which the extremely financially burdened Bahamian taxpayers have to incur involving the foreign nations citizens at our southern borders illegally breaching our sovereign territory in this case to the evil Communist Govt.
Bahamian Govt. must immediately summons the Cuban Ambassador and demand full explanation of this illegal incursions and blatent breachings of our Bahamian borders! !!!!!!
Bahamian taxpayers are tired, tired, tired, fed up and dead vexed of all these continuous illegal breachings of our Sovereign nation borders, surrounded by southern nations with populations of some 12 million population in each of them,.... and having to pay all expenses incurred by their citizens breaching our borders to apprehend and send them back!!!!!
@TalRussel, indeed. And our Nurses and front line warriors the length and breadth of the Bahamas will be administering to majority of the nations people, of every Constituency, with or without sidewalks or needing sidewalks, the Vaccine. And yes, Nurses and warriors meeting most people and closer up to touch peoples' lives with a better chance of vaccinated lives in Pandemic crisis. Indeed I am so grateful for the heroic deeds of these Nurses and warriors that they can have both the land and sidewalk money to spend more equally and democratic manner throughout the Bahamas like Abaco and Grand Bahama. May our Good Lord grant a 100% success of Vaccines administered and for nation to have no more lives passinng away from terrible Covid and safety of our Nurses and front line warriors.
Given the Covid crisis and the sacrifices of brave warriors, particularly our Nurses and others in this huge crisis, that these affordable discounted Crown Lands be first offered to our front line Nurses and other warriors.
Our front line warriors have complained of protective equipment going into battle, have worked and recently not been fully compensated for work done and traumitized by having to protest in streets in front of govt offices, deserves first chance of acquiring discounted Crown land.
Our brave Nurses after being at the frontline of battle from before no vaccine on the battleground, caring for suffering, dying people, known massive shortages of nurses, known dedication to caring for people, knowningly working 16 hour shifts SHOULD be at the forefront of having first opportunity of having discounted Crown Land in gratitude of the entire nation.
Facial recognition seems to only now being done electronically at the airport when local financial institutions and others have being doing it for almost a year and even before that. Customers have been asked prior to Pandemic in many places to remove their dark sunshades, remove caps, hoodies on jackets for security cameras to have clear facial features. Stores, offices almost all commercial places have electronic doors and camera system to 'approve' of you as security risk before they buzz the door to let you in.
Local bank will have customers remove your mask at the entrance and look at the security camera and put back on your mask. Looking forward at upcoming National Elections it seems quite likeky that the Elections Officials at the Polling stations seems likely to compare your photo and having masks removed, to compare and then to look at the number on their list and give corresponding document to make selection in booth. Hopefully, these voting documents stores under some new elected govt office is destroyed quickly and not used for any other untold purpose.
