And still there is no privitization of bec/bpl. Surely this has been the last straw and people insisted it was privitized? They should have done so long ago. (Its not as if keeping it in public hands leads to low rates)
Putting it in private hands is the only guarantee this will not happen again. Every incentive is there precisely for it to happen again! (no one is representing the interest of the wider public in all matters relating to BPL, so if no one will then you might as well just sell it off and at least private owners will be in charge of it and at least the bleeding will stop as far as direct soaks of the public)
Since we can not meet our targets under the Paris Agreement as we are going ahead with LNG development, and 30 year odd contracts, when is the Bahamas going to pull out of the agreement too?
Why is there no debate how in the wake of Dorian we can still move ahead with LNG plants? Shouldn't everything be solar or wind from this point on?
Isn;t it clear we need a permanent 2.5% - 4% Disaster Relief Fund VAT applied to everything with the funds just used for natural idisasters, and walled off from regular government spending and perhaps even funds management so we prepared for the inevitable storms that are sure to come now? At would point will huricane coverage not even be viable for most people? (rates sure to go way up as well). So all in all showing the need for a true disaster recovery facility.
Disaster funding should come from a cautionary fund added to VAT and administered by a third party for huricane relief only.
If we are at 9 Billion in debt soon enough, where are the cuts to government spending? Discretionary spending can not be cut hugely. Devalution would be a disaster given the reliance on imports.
Great job! I hope everyone can say something good to the people in government who brought this about, we complain too much, and at times its justified, but good work should be commended too.
Now to just turn all this good work into creating a nice solar based electrical system that doesn't emit as much greenhouse gases.
China has the most people. Why wouldn't it be the biggest emitter? Everyone needs to do their part in cutting emissions, or else why would anyone try if the objective was not doing to be sought by all?
Lets also stop playing games that the Bahamas is a viable functioning state in a world that does not control climate change, ditto for the planet. I can live without air conditioning, can you live without a planet?
The silence on LNG and getting more power from renewable energy and getting tourism off of fossil fuels is deafening since Dorian. Cruise ships are horrid for climate change, moving ships around burning huge amounts of Bunker fuel!

Sure seems a sugar tax would be a good idea non?
A fast food tax is probably another great idea.
