Bimini has a well known population of Bull Sharks. At the very least the Bimini Bay ‘authorities’ should certainly advise “swimmers” not to venture out after dark; this time of year 6:30pm is dark.
There used to be “shark feeding” at the Big Game Club a few years ago, not sure if that’s still an on-going activity? A real recipe for disaster…especially given that the species was the renowned Bull Shark, known for their aggressiveness.
Dr. Minnis is absolutely correct in his assessment of the issue he raised. The present public health facilities lack the necessary equipment and both reusable and disposable supplies necessary to treat our population. And the private facility is much too costly. It is less expensive to be treated in Cayman, Cuba, Panama and Columbia, countries that now attract Bahamian healthcare dollars.
The method of government funding (and borrowing) to create new infrastructure, while not maintaining existing ones is foolish and ‘donkey’-backwards. Bahamians should focus on the issues, not political and cynical posturing. Both political parties should work together to achieve a fiscally responsible way forward.
Dr. Minnis has been brave to reveal his family’s situation, admitting their relative wealth allowed such a move. However don’t be fooled, it’s the working and middle classes who bear the brunt of this medical calamity and who suffer the physical, psychological and financial ruin.
Go there and see the costs of ignoring environmental issues. Bahamians need to demand that our governmental and regulatory authorities do their job and properly adjudicate development vs environmental concerns. Not every island or cay need ‘an anchor project’😡
Keep pushing Mr. Coughlin, many, if not most of us support your concerns.
I’m not familiar with the objectives of many of these pageants, excluding those where ‘talent’ is the overriding requisite, as such I readily admit a bias as to their purpose.
However this situation is most unfortunate and not a good example of professionalism amongst the organisers. The distrust that one can be unfairly treated and manipulated is likely a result of the corruption and deceit rampant in our country right now.
Hope this young lady gets due process and resolution. Otherwise I hope she gets support from those closest to her so she is enlightened by this experience and not tarnished by folks who may not be the best examples for her to follow.
“Best Practices” which is something we should strive for and that would include consulting the end users BEFORE purchasing equipment, especially those necessitating a $1.5M outlay 🤔
Interesting how both the Bahamar and British Colonial properties and our government’s actions on both are in the news. Hopefully we will be more deliberative in our investigations and critique of what they have done…Sunshine is extremely important here.
Folks with integrity would refuse any appearance of impropriety. However we have a paucity of morals and integrity amongst our political elites and their ‘hanger ons’. As a friend of mine often opines “land of pirates”🤨
Opposition, continue to advocate for an investigation. Even if we can never seem to get these political types successfully prosecuted. Maybe one day justice will prevail 🤞🏽
