The government attempts at reducing food cost on certain items has resulted in chaos within the VAT system while simultaneously making it extremely difficult for businesses to comply with their tax regime. A policy having some items as “zero” or “exempt” only complicates the situation while also allowing those folks who can afford to pay VAT the same benefits.

If they would simply implement the system designed to help financially disadvantaged families, giving them a pre-paid limited dollar amount credit card (voucher) uploaded monthly, then it will be targeted to those truly in need. That way VAT can be “10%” on all items in the stores.

Maybe simply levelling the utility covers with the roadway could effect a positive change and reduce the pothole effect on our vehicles.

Many people, depending on their job title, are expected to work and function in less than ideal and even difficult circumstances. This is especially so for those in the healthcare field, as well as military or police officers whether their parents or other family members want it to be otherwise.

What has been described in this article is an example of those circumstances and begs the question: “do the ones complaining not know what they signed up for?” This is why these professionals deserve of respect, admiration and REWARD when they carry out their mandate as they did through the COVID pandemic, with every hurricane and natural disaster we have ever faced. So while we can always do better, let’s not reduce our young men and women to a cadre of mediocrity.

Maybe there should be an investigation about this project. Who benefits? etc etc.

As for other hospital projects by our government none more problematic than the delays encountered by the present A&E redevelopment at our PMH. Excuses abound! However it is a great example why Bahamians should have No faith in this $300M project even if we ignore all the great points mentioned in this article and by previous folks, including the very doctors and nurses who will run the facilities…

I heard on comment describing an epidemiological expert described the difference between “association” vs “causation” using a similar example to ‘violence rates are “associated” with increased purchasing of ice cream. Both increase during summer months, not because eating ice cream increases violence, but that both factors increase during warmer seasons’!

Let them keep their “locks”! Everyone’s entitled to their “beliefs”, as long as they don’t interfere with others who ‘believe’ something different or flys in the face of science.

Allowing exemptions of commonly issued immunisations for potentially life saving public health diseases is another matter. Unimmunized folks, especially children reap the benefit of ‘Herd Immunity’ when the overwhelming majority are immunized. It is not only unfair to the public, but since the benefit is lost when the immune population is reduced (in the case of measles that’s less than 95% of the population being immunized!), it is dangerous to us all.
