@Chucky, perhaps, someone with no connection to the Bahamian population would be better suited for the role. We have to train our people to not accept corruption. Until such time, we may have to turn to outside help.

We continue to sit idly by and allow corruption to occur. We complain on social media, but when it comes to real change, we are not serious. We do not demand accountability nor do we care as long as we are getting our share or as long as it does not directly affect us.

The entire country loses when we have this type of attitude. We need a change in our mindset. Corruption and dishonesty have destroyed many strong nations, just look at Zimbabwe or better yet, some of our Caribbean neighbors.

So @BahamaPundit, this in my humble opinion is why we got the leadership that we have had! We did it to ourselves!

geostorm says...

@bahamianson, no one seems to care about that!

geostorm says...

@SNAKE, you make good sense here, but how will we get the Bahamian consumer to change their mindset. They are driven by spending. They must have what everyone else has even they can not afford it. We are in crisis financially and I think it may take a new generation of people to fix this mess that we are in.

I think you guys are making a big deal over nothing! It's a keepsake for goodness sake. It commemorates the event while Lanisha is Minister of Youth. As the Minister giving the award, she put her face on one side of it, why is that an issue? It appears to be a special keepsake given by the Minister.

We have so many pressing issues to address in this country and this is the nonsense we waste time on? Do you think the victims of Hurricane Dorian care about Lanisha's face on a commemorative award? How about our country's fiscal position? What about all of the crime? We are barely hanging on for dear life as a country and people find time to waste on trivial discussions.

I just can't! We really need a change in our mindset, if we are going to push this country forward.

I was wondering how long it would take for parents to demand more from these teachers. It's a shame that it has come to this. Shame on the teacher's union and its leadership for this. It's time for the students and parents to take a stand!

I commend Mr. Evans for 40 years of service to our country, that is not an easy feat. With that said, we must be prepared to move on, especially when we hold positions that are are of political significance or have put in the required amount of time on the job. We should follow the guidelines set out by General Orders. If it's time for someone to leave or retire, then move on and allow a younger person to take over. I was happy to read that Mr. Evans felt the same way.

***I don’t want them to go into these positions to make their beds up,” he said. “I’m often weary of people who want to make their beds up because they don’t ever want to leave. Leadership is about preparing those under you to take over from you and we need to get to that place***

It should also be expected that anyone at the level of Director, Permanent Secretary, Commissioner, Commodore etc, should know that once a government is changed, there is potential for them to be removed, even if they are the best in the position. The government has the right to place whomever they want in those positions of influence. It's done by governments around the world and there is no ill- will about it.

I think we have allowed the civil service to be politicized for too long. It should not be so. Not only do we drain the Public Treasury by doing so, but we kill the morale of many hard working dedicated, employees when we move them out to put others in.

Generally speaking, I agree with what the government is doing. My reasons for the approval are strictly from a position of being wise and fiscally prudent and also for producing a younger, and stronger work force who can move and navigate the changing times.
