Where are my fellow Bahamians going? What do they expect the US to do? They have no money, no source of income, only the clothes on their backs and are trying to enter the US? Looks like an intending immigrant situation to me. On a regular day, one must establish ties and equities to enter the US, what do you think about a week after a devastating storm?
At this time, those affected by the storm should seek help from family members in the Bahamas or through the government assisted programs. Why head to the US with nothing? You will only be a burden on their taxpayers. It's the same way we feel about others coming to our shores illegally and being a burden on our resources. So don't be alarmed fellow Bahamians, the US is just protecting its self and its resources which are intended for its citizens!
Don't be distracted Dr. Minnis! This is not the time for division and partisan politics as you have mentioned. You and your team have a country to rebuild. It may appear that there are more against you than for you, but that is not so. Stay focused!
Come on papa, I expect better from you! Yes, we can **ASSUME** that the death toll will be in the hundreds, but we have to speak to what is confirmed and verified. Those bodies have not been recovered and until such time that they have, we can only go on the official count. Also, everyone along the coast and low lying areas were warned to move, I even saw footage of a Haitian Seven Day Adventist Pastor going into the Haitian communities advising the people to move, so don't say that they were not told in Creole. That's nonsense!
It appears that you may have a beef with the good doctor based on the comments that you gave in the Tribune's other article involving yourself and former Prime Minister Christie. If you do, put it aside for now, you have had your time, let Doc chart his own course and if he fails, let the people move him. No need to exasperate the situation any further. By the way, this is coming from someone who supported you throughout your term in office.
There is some truth to what these two are saying, however, Dr. Minnis has every right to do it his way. Given the political climate over the last 10-15 years, these two, especially former Prime Minister Christie need to take a back seat. Perhaps, they should offer advice to Dr. Minnis and suggest persons who would be helpful to the process.
The country has faced many challenges. There has been issues with corruption, financial irresponsibility and lack of accountability. With all of that, I don't blame Dr. Minnis for going in the opposite direction. He will probably get better results that way. Unfortunately for Doc, though,Bahamians hate change and will resist everything he tries to do. We love the status quo.
