Way to go Attorney General! Bahamians are being evicted every day from their homes what makes illegal immigrants different. Fred Smith needs to channel his energies towards ensuring that Haitian immigrants take the proper steps to work and live in the Bahamas.that would be beneficial to both sides.
"**Beginning January 1, 2019, an owner that resides in their property for less than six months in any given year will be required to pay real property taxes at the rate of 0.75 percent on that part of the market value which does not exceed $500,000, and 2 percent on that part of the market value which exceeds $500,000."**
This is the norm for 2nd home owners around the world. Check out the taxes paid to the Government of Canada for second home owners in British Columbia. in some cases second home owners can pay as much as 15%, so 2 percent is a joke!
At least it's a step in the right direction. If they want to effect change and convince the Bahamian people that they have changed course, this is a good start.
Mr. Rigby made recommendations years ago when he was chairman. He gave a good assessment of where the PLP needed to be. It fell on deaf ears, hopefully this time around they would do better.
I am not a fan of the party but we do need a good opposition in order bring a balance to Parliament. We all loose when there is no strong opposition.
Watch the complaint in another few months on how the government isn't giving contractors jobs. My people, what is wrong with you? A seminar designed to help you navigate a new system.....and hardly anyone shows up!! Wow.....good luck trying to get a government contract.......and when you don't, don't blame the government.
@my2cents, you making better sense! You gave 2 good options. Since the child needs help immediately, I would suggest that the mother tries your second option.get a haitian passport for the child. Given the circumstances, I'm pretty sure the Haitian Embassy will be obliged to help.
No use crying over old archaic laws. Get the child the help she needs.
Bahamians will continue to gamble. Many are addicted to it and are unable to control the addiction. The stamp tax is a joke for them. They will gamble with the stamp tax or without!
The Bahamas has lost another son. Take your rest Phenton. You join the ranks of Charles Maynard, Dr. B.J. Nottage and Teresa Moxey Ingraham. All of you did your best to serve our country. We are grateful for your service no matter what our political persuasion. May your family receive the comfort that only our Savior can provide and may your soul and the souls of all the dearly departed rest in peace.
