NO government issued ID, no registration. Tell Rights Bahamas to get a life! This is the one time that I can say, I miss the Christie administration. Fred Mitchell (Immigration) and Jerome Fitzgerald (Education) would have surely addressed this to the benefit of the Bahamian people.
I think the government is making a big mistake. They really need to think this through. Freeport is in dire straits and they need someone who has the extra capital to do this. The government can not afford to purchase or maintain a hotel. Dr. Minnis you need to re- think this one.
Joe Blow, you read my mind!!! How much more do these people expect to get from the government? My goodness, if you received assistance last year, you should have put yourself in a better position this year. Our people need to stop this dependency on the government to help them. If we don't put a stop to this we will continue to perpetuate this cycle of dependence. Kudos to the government for decreasing the amount available this year!
You are correct Joe Blow! Anyway, I'm glad they issued a Certificate of Identity. Hopefully the US will allow her to travel with it given her health situation. As for her status as a Bahamian, she will need to tow the line like everyone else in her position. Citizenship should not be issued just because she has a special medical need. If that is the case, more people will try to claim critical health issues to get citizenship fast tracked.
Attorney General Carl Bethel, you had better get this issue resolved forthwith. There is no way these people should be given rights in our Bahamaland. They are squatters and contribute to the deteriorating conditions in this country. Get them off the land. The government has the right to move them in the national interest. Stop playing games with those Haitians. Follow the Dominican Republic's lead!
You can say what you want about the Pastor, it still does not change God's word. It is true, and remains the same yesterday, today and forever. You can not contradict God's word. There are consequences whether you believe it or not.
Exactly! She refuses to get a Haitian passport because of the stigma associated with being Haitian. She is trying to milk the situation to ensure that her child gets a Bahamian passport. Well, the law states otherwise! Let's see if she gets the Bahamas government to break the law because of her special circumstance. If they do, then all other children in similar situations can cry foul.
I do believe however, that the child should be issued some type of travel document similar to the one that they issued to Haitian Jean- Rony Charles when he was ordered to be returned to the Bahamas from Haiti. At least that would allow her to travel to receive the help she needs.
Stop being so political. The PHA under successive governments have been operating at a loss. It's time to stop the hemorrhaging and make people pay for some of these services so that we can at least provide minimal standards of care.
Carry on Dr. Sands and the PHA. Review those fees and be sure to put measures in place that will force the public to pay. You can't do that in the US, if its not a life or death situation, you will pay for those services.
How else do you people expect health care to be provided!
Bahamaland be careful! Go and read the stories of Europe and the illegal immigrant community. There are parts of countries like Germany, France and Belgium that the police no longer venture into because they have become overran with illegal immigrants and crime. We can not sit idly by as others come into our country illegally and make all kinds of demands for citizenship and naturalization.
I am sick and tired of Fred Smith and his drive for attention. If you all are really interested in the welfare of that child, then go apply for a Haitian passport so that she can get a visa. she is not a bahamian until she is naturalized at the age of 18. I don't care how her mom screams and cries. The law is the law.
He mom needs to set aside her pride and go get that child a Haitian passport. Personally, I think the mom feels that if the child has a Haitian passport then that would ruin her chances of her becoming a Bahamian or would put a stigma on her.
Anyway, I wish them well because the child should be able to receive the medical attention that she needs.
