Here it comes, folks. Our foolish politicians took the bait of an easy bailout loan whilst flushing our economy down the drain by locking down - and now the fine print is coming to light. You cannot keep borrowing and borrowing and stealing and mismanaging and borrowing some more. Borrowing too much to pay off too many loans. The IMF is the equivalent of the bank manager calling you into the head office and explaining that if you don't get your finances in order they are going to foreclose on the mortgage. It is not fun. It is not good for hair-brained politicians that think they are smarter than they really are.... but in the long run it is good for the country. Balancing the books is growing up and displaying an independent maturity and responsibility that enables you to once again make your own rules and borrow again. In the meantime, we have some tough and unpleasant financial medicine to swallow
This has got to be the most incompetent group of leaders that the world has ever seen. They lock the country down because everyone else is locking down but when everyone else comes out of lockdown they want to stay in lockdown. Now they have depleted the country's cash reserves they are giving themselves a pat on the back for borrowing more money and expecting us to smile because they aren't introducing new taxes.....YET !! At least the PLP understood that they needed some money in the coffers to steal. These numbskulls don't even understand that full government spending for 3 months with zero income equals broken broke. An who are they going to tax next year ? All us homeless people because the banks won't lend us more money than we earn to pay back our mortgages ?? You can't make this stuff up.
So long as we have to import everything that we consume and have (virtually) nothing to export, and therefore must rely on a fickle tourist market (that is currently 110% shut down by our glorious Papa Doc) we are a sinking ship. It is easy to blame our latest narrow-minded back yard Bahamian Politicians but globalization has put all of us tiny little independent nations on a collision course with financial insolvency. The future will either be as an economic subject of a larger nation such as USA or China, or require a huge amount of courage to break away from the globalization crowd and go it alone.
Wait till the B$ dollar is devalued and your government salary will barely buy a loaf of bread. Wake up Bahamas. These guys are distracting you with fluff whilst the lockdown is going to wipe away your life savings. Once the borrow from the IMF your government jobs wont be safe either.
Exactly. The insistence to lockdown the economy so harshly has pretty much destroyed 90% of private-sector jobs and the government has nothing but outflows right now
It is about time that some of our more respected community members began to speak out against the utter madness of the situation we are now in. Three months is surely enough time for a competent government to come up with a strategy that removes the need for "emergency powers". When this is all said and done we must seriously look at our constitution and the de-position of "Governor-General". It does not make any sense to have a constitution that can be thrown in the trash so recklessly and indefinitely by one person, appointed crony, not elected.
Hopefully, we will not all still be under emergency powers when the next elections are due and we can peacefully demonstrate our disgust at one man seizing control and acting out his dictatorial fantasies at the expense of the poor and middle class
How many boats coming and going from the USA just in this story alone ?????? Good thing Papa Doc has us all locked down so as we dont get the virus in this country ever again...............
All he did was enable Papa Doc to drag us into this godforsaken lockdown. Conjured up by members of the Wuhan Politburo in February, mass lockdown became a thing (overnight) when the head of the WHO decided to NOT embarrass China because they did such a criminal job of warning the world about the virus outbreak. The WHO and China were responsible for letting this virus go global so they blew up the biggest distraction they could. Next thing we know Italy is doing it, then some idiot in the UK's computer models say we are all going to die and everyone panics and the whole world goes in to lockdown without a second thought about economy, how we get out of it, or where the science, or even common sense of it is. Flatten the curve ? We did that in the first week with social distancing. Fact. Since then Papa Doc is defying all reality and the only good thing Doc Sands did is remove himself from the political fallout when everyone realizes what a bad idea lockdown was
