They need to enshrine it in the constitution that NO ONE....no crooked corrupt politician, no self-serving developer or anyone else is allowed to hire more than 'X' percent on any construction project. It doesn't matter if it's 20% of 75% so long as everyone understands what it is and are playing by the same rules. The fact that the Chinese were able to negotiate zero Bahamians and the next developer has to hire 100% Bahamians is complete BS and this kind of inconsistent, arbitrary pandering to the most corrupt bidder is holding the entire country up
Uuuummmmmm.........why dont they just reverse the old 'bend or break' regime and let Freeport get on back to it's original mandate. The place was doing just fine until a few elected representatives from Nassau decided that if they couldn't have it, no one could have it !
What these small-time, near-sighted yocal politicians need to realize is that big business has a long memory. You think a big multinational corporation is going to relocate here (like so many have tried to in the past) because this one guy, this week, says it's a good thing, when history has proven that the next guy, next week, is going to have his hand out and be pointing at the door.
"Crossing the Floor" is an integral part of democracy and exactly what the Westminster System is supposed to represent. There are two parties and if one party has the majority but it is making a ridiculous law, members of the ruling side are able to cross the floor and vote against the bill. That is the people's power. Firing dissenters within your party is tantamount to Fascism and indicates that the current FNM leadership has absolutely no idea how the Westminster is supposed to work.
Challenges and debate within a party equal a healthy democracy. Blind submission to a single party line is communism
Shame the FNM didn't put some anti-corruption legislation in place 25 years ago when they first got in power. They need to set up legislation and make it illegal for banks to keep lending money and/or buying government bonds outside of strict monetary guidelines. Or we are just going to keep sliding off the face of the earth like all the other third world countries that are incapable of demonstrating their own fiscal discipline
Awesome. Lets make some more artificial reef with some confiscated Dominican fishing boats and build a tourist island next to that with all of the leftover demolition rubble when they knock down Crystal Palace
I agree ..... It appears all we are going to ever get from the ruling elite is some hot air about the last regime's financial improprieties and then some more taxes. Really not even sure what the point of a 'Transparency Act' is if everyone that has ever considered running for government in this country can be 110% confident that there is absolutely ZERO accountability regardless of what laws are in place and/or how badly they behave !!
This government needed to throw some people in jail and then raise taxes. They needed to set up a corrupt practices tribunal and cancel all of the crooked contracts the PLP set up the day before the elections instead of winging about them in public and then sticking it to the people to pay them all off in full.
The real disaster is that the FNM will get voted out and the criminals will get back in and they will piss away all of the benefits of these austerity measures and painful choices they are putting on us now.....they will promise the people free lunch and then they will say we need more taxes
This government better not add or raise any taxes on the Bahamian people until it can show that they have the balls to do something about the looting of the public purse by filth bags such as Davis. Otherwise, they will get voted out in the next elections, the criminals will get back in and this country can kiss it's ass goodbye.
This is a guy with a simple landscaping background that has his name on a construction company completely managed and run by Americans and a kitchen cabinet franchise completely managed and run by Canadians. I think what he is really saying is that he doesn't want anyone else to be allowed to front because those fronters are stepping on his fronts !
Why don't you and all your wig wearing buddies try coming up with a solution to crime in the 21st century Mr Munroe, instead of clinging on to rules formulated in mother England three hundred years ago?
