The political system in the country is based on the UK'ssystem of parliamentary democracy. The typical size of an MPs constituency is around 38,000 voters. If the Bahamas had a similar ratio of MPs to voters, then there would be 3 members only in The House of Assembly. Like most all government entities the HOA is grossly overstaffed.
An unrealistic goal, every new constituency costs the tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollars. Why not give Guana Cay it's own MP, and Green Teurtle, Man'o'war, etc., etc.?
Well, rosiepit, the figures that you cite just do not seem correct to my cursory reading. Perhaps they are based on data suppled by Bahamas government entities which is just about as good and trustworthy as it should be....
IMO, for whatever it may be worth, Mexico is as much at risk of a USA intervention as is Cuba. Both countries have a history of this happening but Mexico has the obvious distinction of being a real gateway country for the influx of fentanyl , Cuba less so. Anyway, let all Bahamians pray to the Almighty that FM Fred sits quiet and says nothing more provocative than he has already done. Surely none of us want to see Ms. Anne-Marie shackled in leg irons appearing in a NY court next to her husband.
It should be understood that the plp administration has government employees who choose who will be awarded the various honours; the list of names is sent the relevant department in the British government and the honors are then given out. Does the king actually see the list of names sent in by the 56 countries that do so? I doubt it,
So ironic that these people are singing "This land is my land” ", since that song is United States of America anthem of the counter culture by Arlo Guthrie, if memory serves. Cotillion Of Ignorance......
Some Bahamian citizens may consider that reading a report of a very senior Royal Bahamas Police officer and an officer of the Royal Bahamas Defiance Force , manacled, head bowed, arraigned in a powerful court of law, to be regrettable if it is the beginning of a movement to rid these two State Security institutions of the obvious odious corruption that pervades some, not all, of their ranks, then such a report may perhaps be greeted favourably.
And so it begins. Diplomatic protocol dictates that every arriving ambassador of a foreign country first first presents his or her credentials to the Governor General who represents the highest diplomatic office in the Bahamas. Mitchell has managed to upstage GG Pratt, and the American ambassador could have better advised perhaps.
