The problem with this government imitative is that if you are a job seeker who is over 40 years old then you might as well give up now. The government is spending millions of our dollars to help people who are not you get that job that you wanted. I believe this applies to Bahamian mothers not fathers. Fathers can pass on citizenship to their children if born to a foreign wife, mothers can pass on citizenship to their children only if not married to a foreigner. If married then those children can apply for citizenship at 16, I think. Been there an done that, twice over.

Citizenship should not be based solely on if your parents are married or not. . Your statement is totally incorrect. We had a referendum to correct this injustice but the ignorant self serving pastors and bishops told their sheep, I mean flock, to vote against it. We are one of a handful of backward countries who discriminate against women, based on their right to pass on citizenship, which in turn is based on whether they are married to a foreigner or not. Not a correction but I wonder if you know anyone who has had to go through the process of getting a Haitian passport? I am reliably informed that it is a corruption filled bureaucratic nightmare of Kafkaesque proportions. It also requires a visit to Haiti and if she goes there then the chances of our wonderful hardworking Immigration Department officers ever letting her back into this country of her birth are slim to non-existent. I keep hearing this ignorant statement that Bahamians fought for majority rule. The Bahamians could have had majority rule decades before 1968 if they had just voted for a black candidate but instead they took the five pound note and voted for a white candidate. There were no battles, no one fought, no one won a battle and no one lost a battle. The whole world got caught up in a civil rights movement giving majority rule in dozens upon dozens of countries, the Bahamas was just swept along with an inevitable rearrangement of the political power structure. It is still continuing which is why Scotland wants to split from the united Kingdom and Abaco wants to secede from the Bahamas. I wish them both every success and applaud their desire for independent government.
