Why do plp leaders mislead so easily? There is a huge difference between a grubby piece of paper with some random numbers written on it carried in the pocket of a nondescript citizen and a database on a webshop compute which has recorded every detail of every transaction and every id of every customer. Easy to build a case that will hold up in court. Does everyone remember chief of police Elliston greenslade announcing publicly that he would close the illegal numbers houses within two weeks? I guess he got too busy preparing to be the Bahamas's ambassador to the court of St James in the UK. What hope does a country have when the chief of police lies so publicly and is the honoured with a high post?
Thisnotours, your comment "Nothing anyone says can beat that man up more than the voices in his head" may or may not be correct. In this country we have about 10,000 sociopaths who do not usually even know that they are sociopathic, most of them consider themselves just hard men or tough women if they engage in any self-reflection. If this stupid driver is sociopathic he will be beating himself up not from guilt but from the realization that he is going to prison and that some very angry relatives will never forgive him. If a magistrate gives him a slap on the wrist fine as has happened in the last two cases then if I was a grieving relative............I would be very upset. I am so sorry for this needless loss of life.
So I wonder just how much pension money the Bahamian taxpayers are paying out every month to the former managing director of BOB. Since he did such an impressive job of work, I expect it will be a large amount. But maybe not quite as much as the former minister of finance and one fingered salutes is getting.
web shops face a "wipe out" from tax increases of up to 355 percent, as the sector accused the government of deliberately seeking to "cripple" it. Hooray, go for it, government.
And just like that The State has a blood sample of every citizen and resident of this country. Does the State own our DNA, Does it have the right to examine it to determine what diseases we are likely to get, whether the man we think is our daddy is really our daddy, our projected life span, our inherited proclivity to engage in unlawful behaviour? You will soon be able to find out a lot about a person by examining their DNA from a blood sample. George Orwell's 1984 is beginning at chapter 1. Or perhaps I am wrong and all our elected and appointed government leaders and workers are honest honourable people and always will be. By the way, are you interested in buying the Paradise Island bridge because I know a man who knows a man....................
Agedone, the problem with this spy bill is that an elected politician gets to order who gets spied upon with no checks and balances. If it took a court order or judges agreement from an independent judiciary then it would become palatable. Can you imagine the damage politicians, such as the totally amoral ones we saw in power with the shuffling buffoon, could wreak if they had access to everyone's emails, phone conversation, internet browsing, and minute by minute location through phone location tracking?
