Apart from the questionable weather and having Putin as a neighbor, Sweden is a great country. Most everyone gets on well together and the citizens receive all needed education and health care, paid for by the high rate of income tax. The political leaders are confident of their own abilities and do not have an inferiority complex. Thus on trips out of the country all the cabinet ministers travel, not in first class, but in regular economy class like you or I would do. To get to parliament members and minister use public transport, just like regular people. The world can learn from Sweden's example.

"Caesar's wife but not only be above reproach but also must be seen to be above reproach," There is wisdom in these ancient sayings. There are most probably some Bahamians that still believe the utterances of political appointees. Sad.....

My apologies, Amone2. The completed sentence could have read; "hard to the o take as seriously as if it had been suggested by, for instance, President Joe Biden". Is the Bahamas current with our UN payments?

hrysippus says...

This is sour, just so, the Christie promise of free electricity was simply the best. The most ridiculous unbelievable political promise recorded in the long history of ridiculous promises by Bahamian politicians wanting to be elected to positions of power.

Of course the UN needs reform but such talk is like leaves blowing in the wind. It is instructive to know how and why this organization came about; it was years and tears of great compromise by the politicians of the more powerful countries after millions of their soldiers and civilians had been slaughtered in the two World Wars. The formation of the UN was paid for by the sacrifice of those major countries. The big countries might find this recommendation from the elected leader of a a country so small that only something a bit over 100,000 make up the electoral role.

Anyone with any sense can see exactly how this program will unfold and how it will end up.

The real worth of the Jury system is that the power to acquit lies with the people chosen for jury duty. If a government pass a repressive and ridiculous law and then prosecute someone for breaking that ridiculous law, then the people, jury, can let the accused go free, and the government and the judges can do nothing about it. Think Sir Etienne's defense several decades ago, an administration is very capable of targeting those who speak against it.

it is somewhat ironic that a man who claims to espouse the teachings of The Prince of Peace, Jesus; a man who has worked the church business for many years, is now involved in organized bullying designed to humiliate and instill fear in adolescents. The fact that such programs have never been seen to work effectively is ignored by all. Some people are beginning to suspect that Carlos has political ambitions.

The’lectric supply to the Shanty towns,
Has caught the attention of the political clowns.
It been going on since pingaling time,
Just same as eating conch wit’ lime.
But politicians can’t ignore a political trope.
If being richly reelected is their hope.
So once again they gotta pander to dem masses.
As the only way to save their sorry Kasses.

This all sounds good but I must wonder if the letter writer has considered who actually owns the land on Little Inagua; if it is Crown Land then there are perhaps no insurmountable challenges, but if however the land is in private ownership then there is a different story to unfold, and not a simple one.
