An observation and comment that I've may a couple times in the past.........The Gov't and the Court, while one would think would work with autonomy, clearly influenced (the court) by the many relationships that have conflict of interest. The entire "winding-up judgment" has been delayed/postponed how many times.......at least 3 and now isn't in May for yet another alleged date for the petition hearing....my point is, to the many issues highlighted in the report about, this kicking the can down the street has been a disaster and in my opinion is because the judge hasn't had the testicular fortitude, and under the pressure of the gov't not to, make a ruling already and get the ball rolling!
In regards to the statements above from Mr. Andrew Farkas speaking to opening timetables....I absolutely agree 100% with him. I've written on these wall before that along with so many of the misleading statements and projections, one of the biggest one was all the people from all side who jumped on the wagon and were saying that at the point of Bankruptcy, the project was 97% complete. So not true, and so many examples could be given, but some of the largest and most misleading are the fact that some of the hotels were even completed in construction and much of the Case Goods and FF&E not only hadn't arrived on the Island yet, much couldn't even be tracked.
I'm sure I recall that specific story, it's always been reported that Sarkis didn't want CCA on the project if he was going to continue. Never heard the one about the Chinese bank not wanting the Chinese construction company.
Really…..shocking, the delusional finally decided to join us in the real world. It would be very interesting to know if all certificates of occupancy, fire code verification and all appropriate insurance verified. The last function that was held in that Convention Center was the employee holiday party back in December 2014 and none of the afore mentioned was in place. If there has been no further construction, further who has done an analysis on any damage done and/or other issues from the down time. I’d be interested in knowing the results of the reported alleged “Audit” that the China Construction was going to do so as to report what they observed from the “Damage” of down time and how long it would take to complete the project? Several months ago we were lead to believe that the findings would be provided in 7 days, and yet no timetable or facts have been released of just such an analysis.
OMG, I’ve commented so much on this Baha Mar topic in the past and have shed so much light on the “Truth”……but this one takes the cake……my past post have literally called out the court and specifically Justice Winder as being a puppet…..just how far down the road can you kick a can….it’s an island, surely the road ends. The lack of “Testicular Fortitude” to once and for all stand by a deadline previously set so as to progress to the next level which everybody was so on board with back in June during the Bankruptcy…….I just don’t know what world of reality the Justice system is living in? Isn’t there supposed to be a separation of executive and judicial branches?
OK, so I’ll make one short to address to specific items: 1) And I quote from the article ““There are a huge number of very internationally recognizable corporate names interested in the product”. OMG, the operative word is “Interest”…..everybody wants to know what the Performa looks like, I can tell you for a fact that the Occupancy levels at around 85% that they put together for the year, are absolutely not even close to what Atlantis and the Caribbean run historically over the past 25+ years, at a much higher projected rate by almost $100-$150 over the entire market…….and you’d be adding more rooms to the market in Nassau, not to mention other beautiful, 5 diamond resort on other islands in the Caribbean…..more room nights, minus equal to less demand, means no way you’ll make your debt burden especially when BML put together such ridiculous number just to justify the 2.5B loan……may I add, they felt that they were going to get these high rollers from China etc, Macau is so much closer and the Chinese don’t like the sun/beach/water so they weren’t going to come……further with no poker rooms which is what the high rollers want!
2) And the next quote “About two days ago I wrote a very strong letter to the president of the China Export Import Bank”. Somebody please, reporter etc, do some research and blow the PM out of the water with this……how many times has he been quoted with “Very Strong”, like that move The Princess Bride says with a great one liner…. “I don’t think you know the meaning of that word” because apparently all the “Strong Letters” he’s referenced over the years to the many people/organizations he’s said, nobody has taken him seriously or done anything about his idol alleged authority to have any oversight on this situation.
Enough with the nonsense and false, unsubstantiated statements. The PM is the consummate example of the phrase that no publicity is bad publicity. I think he is such a narcissist that he feels he just has to be a part of the conversation. A PM’s job is not just to be heard, but to provide value, he does none and just keeps faking false reports and alleged insight as to his knowledge of the status of this project. It’s like he’d rather say something wrong and with no fact to act like he’s in the know and spread gossip before he gets the truth….then say anything at all. Somebody please call this man out……..maybe a reporter, go back and do a study/research every time he has made a similar statement on “Having it on good authority”, “This is when we expect”, I know there is an “eminent announcement”, “In the short term” “very soon” (I don’t think he knows the meaning of these last two timeframes…) and then please publish this number, I think people will be surprised (or not) in the number and perhaps he may actually see this report and decide to shut up once and for all until somebody with the authority to speak directly to an announcement and date is the once to share the info.
The PM should learn the fine art of keeping your mouth shut until something is a done deal and let those at the forefront of the deal give the announcement. WHY is he so admit, time after time, over the past years, wanted to look good and "In the know" by making premature announcements that to this point, have never come true! Stop trying to take all the credit and look good. There is a reason why people say don't spread gossip, most of the time it's not true or only half true. As a PM, he has lost so much credibility with false, no materializing statements.
I want to briefly comment on the IDB conference. This is a worldwide high profile group, will this bubble gum and band aid approach to pulling this off really put the Bahamas in the best light? This event was literally pushed through by the Gov't and promised/quoted an RFP and accepted without support of the Hospitality community. Baha Mar and Atlantis etc, were basically told after the fact and no contracts signed with the hotels, then it became a "Take one for the Team" and do the Gov't a favor to save face......strictly from a hoteliers point a view, this was not a good piece of business and hotels would have turned it down if the opportunity had come straight to them. The Gov't should have come clean the second bankruptcy was declared, or at least after the liquidation was official and cancel the conference in the Bahamas and give them time to find another location.
That being said, Baha Mar doesn't exist and China Exim bank doesn’t own the Melia. Last I checked, the Bank isn't an operator, who is going to "Work" the event? Is the Bank going to sub-contract out to other Hospitality vendors to run the event....Oye Vey.....and what Vendor Contractor in their right mind would take this work knowing the history of not getting paid?
