The other issue barely brushed over under the cover of "Creditors" are all the employees both Bahamian and expats. The Bahamian side has always been talked about and referenced that all ex Bahamian Baha Mar employees will be made whole with back pay, vacation, any bonus due, severance etc. many won't know that the vast majority of expats working directly on the hotel/casino/golf course/spa etc were classified and paid like all the Bahamians, directly by BML By law, for example, any expat that worked for one of the hotel brands was not paid by that hotel chain/brand in the US or other country of registry. BML actually by proxy, was responsible for all pay, expats and Bahamians alike were paid with the same BML checks drawn from the same local bank. Indeed this article makes a great point that only Bahamian employees are being paid out with minimal documentation needed from the individual employee themselves while expat employees appear to not even being considered for retro pay amounts due. So many expats left the country with substantial amounts due to them by BML. If this financial resolution and monies being given by China bank to pay debts due by BML including employees it would absolutely be discriminatory to pay Bahamians and not expats. If Bahamian employees don't have to file lawsuits to get paid and funds are being distributed by the payment committee, why should any expat, individual or company, have to file lawsuits in foreign countries.
I do like how under the "retro pay" portion of the the PM's statement, while trying to make it a positive point of Bahamian Contractors being brought back in (why would any of them, I'd never trust this situation again) but is quick to suggest a "Substancial amount of monies owes" would be offered back. Hm, wasn't this the same man who has on several occasions GTD that any deal that would be done, would have to include dollar for dollar and made whole?
I worked on this project as a senior director, I HAVE an inside track on the truth and facts with nothing to gain. Mr. D'Aguilar needs to take his own cometary and apply it to himself. At this point I have to question what his pawn status is serving.
I agree with much that is said, but PLEASE understand that there are three versions to every story. Person A, Person B and the truth. I appreciate the Nationalism that all Bahamians and national pride exude, but these post seem to being more and more directed against the Gov't and the Chinese. No matter where you stand is irrelevant because everybody will have opinions.
With out rewriting "War and. Peace" I will say this as fact. Sarkis has one if the biggest egos I've ever seen, decisions were made days, weeks and months before the multiple Grand Openings" that regardless of fault (i.e. the Chinese and the crew hired to project manage which weren't Chinese) and Sarkis and his minions of BML underth like Tom Dunkop and Sandy Sands who we haven't heard from) had the egos and false corporate/fiduciary obligations to tell the people, clients, govt that there was no way they would open regardless of what the Chinese told them. That is behind the scenes, and keep it to contract negotiations but if they didn't know a week out that they wouldn't open then, who is the less truthful entity. Shame on Baha Mar that they had no reaposabity in the disaster.
Lastly , question the ego, resolve and motive of Mr. D'Aguiler, part of his art collection was to be displayed at the convention hall ( giving him international notoriety) and an actual meeting room/ballroom section was to be named after him!
Whatever, all this is hyperbaly and tiresome rhetoric. At the end of the day, yet again, where is the "Eminant and within the next couple of weeks" announcement that the PM offered several weeks ago on a formal announcement on who won the bid to take over. I'm not worried about the time it takes, I know this is serious business, and it would take time, but yet again, the PM opens his mouth and gives forecast that are unfounded and he has no business speaking to.
I've asked this question several times in this forum and given the nature of this report, I'll ask once again. Many months ago the PM along with other entities stated that Before any sales process or valuation of the property was to be made, China Construction was coming in for a 3 day assessment of the total project as it stood and make a recommendation as to the current cost (at that time) as to what they would deem the cost of completion would be. This was an open process with results to be publically offered. That being said, unless I've missed some results, I have yet to see what the official findings/results of that audit were???? I ask again, what is the cost as per the "Experts" on cost to finish the project. Let's not confuse my question with the many assumptions that have been made with 97% completion (which I question) and guesses on completion cost. I'd like the results from the horses mouth and their official findings.
I think that the PM needs to invest (of his personal money and not that which continues to be of Bahamian tax payers) in a copy of Websters dictionary and look up the word "Imminent" as he has used this word soooo many times in the last year in regards to a resolution that it is clear he does not know the meaning of the word.
This will be a short one: As an insider shared, it was NEVER 98% complete, that is sheer marketing and smoke and mirrors for finance purposes..... however if we give 100% of the benefit of the doubt that this was true, how could one year later, with all the degradation of the physical property, two major brands bailing (Yes, the self proclaimed and Crown Jewel and Center Piece of the development, the Baha Mar Casino and Hotel was actually incorporated under Baha Mar proper as an Independent Hotel, but was managed by GGAM-Global Gaming Asset management, look it up....they too are no longer in the game), and absolutely no understanding of where all the FF&E is and other soft goods to finish the product even are located or how to get the finishing products from China and other US contractors since these were via Sarkis and his Baha Mar LTD umbrella, I'm really getting frustrated with people calling this 98% complete to this day. Maybe 70% at best. 2% would require a month or two to open.....anybody would agree that this is at least a 6month to 1 year opening from now. Further, you cvant just look at the physical plant, what about all the staff, expat and locals that are reuired to be in place and advance sales and marketing to get pre-sales etc.....98% please!
Simple answer: Nygard is personal and a an issue individually on his private property against Bahamian environmental law. Sarikis squandered funds and crashed an entire economic stability of a country affecting in a huge way the unemployment. I don't care what anybody says about the Chinese.....you knew before three days you weren't going to open and chose not to let guest know.
Not sure what all this hate is on John, the man is a reporter and reports the story....if you don't like the content, don't read. Yes, he re-engaged but to his point, he had contacts in the Industry and this is an on going story. There is so much blame to go around for all, but trust me when I tell you on good authority that the spending spree and ego driven marketing dollars that were invested leading up to the opening were not justifiable. To start, the tag line about being "Unlike what the world has ever seen" barely merits me commenting on it....seriously, let me just mention two and you can talk amongst your self from there....Vegas, Macau. Look, not sure id anybody saw the Baha Mar ad that played on network TV.....but it is so vague and makes no sense (Not to mention it was filmed in Croatia) and you only see a reference to Baha Mar at the very end with a logo..... $3.5 million....yes, they hired a producer who did the Cartier and Prada etc commercials. To artsy, no substance for a resort. Last thing I'll say, $250,000 plus expenses for a Fung Shay expert to come and give a blessing on the project....keep in mind this was after the fact, everything was already built and it was 10 months before opening so it literally was to spread holly water on what was already done......... Oh, by the way, this anti-ex pat rhetoric needs to stop, it's ok to have pride in your country, but some of these comments are borderline nationalistic and quite frankly insulting. This whole we are "entitled" mentality must stop! There is a reason why there is an entire study done after WW1 and WW2 about being a isolationist country. Again, while I appreciate the national pride Bahamians have, there seems to be some anger and rage about all things "Foreigner" give us back our beaches, our land, our sun......you realize that without foreign investment you'd be a fishing nation? At least Jamaica has Baixite and Ciba has Sugarcane.....these are Natural resources and a country needs more than tourism to survive......stop raging and threatening to deport foreigners.....I' not a fan of Sarkis' leadership, but for a government official to state that deportation is on the table.....seriously, are you in high school or do you represent the position of a sovereign nation?
#1 why is Tom Dunlap evening talking and inserting himself into the specifics of the Pointe? If he wants to make sideline comments about what he and Baha Mar went through, so be it, but sticking his nose in the heart of the matter and insisting that there be more transparency and makes a call about what and how things should be reported......stop trying to make himself relevant and go away..... #2 calling out what and how Mr. Leslie Pindling, director of external affairs for The Pointe, shares information is so inappropriate and quite ironic and an insult to intelligence when Baha Mar's version in Sandy Sands could rarely make statements that contained even one sentence of truth....the amount of contradictions and flat out flip flopping and lying that came out of his mouth on behalf of Baha mar was a joke!
