Article 7, of the constitution also states: Any application for registration under this article shall be subject to such exceptions or qualifications as may be prescribed in the interests of national security or public policy.

Therefore, I would say that the minister does have the right to enforce immigration policies in the interest of the Bahamian public. The fact that there are so many undocumented unidentified illegals is a matter of national security. With close to twenty percent of the population being of Haitian descent, Bahamians are a few generations away from extinction. We might even be able to call it ethnic cleansing. But we won't follow your lead and make light of historic tragedies.

And by the way, show some humanity and respect to the survivors and descendants of the holocaust victims. Or does your "humanity" begin and end with the Haitian community?

Where does it say that surnames will be the only criteria? I must have missed that?

1. I do not believe we are acting immorally with this policy...simply doing what should have been done long ago. However, in your capacity as the morality police, I was just making you aware of the real immoral acts...and not the one you imagined.

2. Because the illegals act immorally we should not. I did not imply that at all. How you got there is beyond me. With your irrational thought process and exaggerated claims...God help you.

Living illegally and feeling entitled in another country is immoral. Having kids while living illegally, not sure of the outcome for them, is immoral. Utilizing services for which you did not pay (electricity for example) is immoral. The list goes on...

The hysteria over this basic policy that has yet to be implemented, and in no way suggests that kids will not be educated for failure to pay fees, is ridiculous. Perhaps if our schools were less crowded you would have learned how to separate fact from opinion. FACT: nowhere does it say failure to pay fees equals no education. opinion: illegal immigrant kids will no longer be educated in our school system.

Also, if you are embarrassed to be Bahamian, take a lesson from the illegal immigrants and hop on the nearest boat, and sail away.

Why would he not believe in it? I believe he does not believe in violating anyone's human rights...and that's not what's happening here. A basic policy, that exists in most civilized countries is finally being implemented in the Bahamas. Why would anyone be conflicted about that?

Where did this man read that children would be banned from school? I have not read that anywhere, and I have been following this matter quite closely.

I am not surprised that he would continue to ignore the problem and do nothing if he were in position, so let's thank God he is not. He is so out of touch with the lives of the average Bahamian and clearly has no interest to improving this country. For this reason, I think he should have a seat, and be quiet, when it comes to issues that matter to the rest of us.

I co-sign everything that was said.

The issues that plagued the Bahamas when I was a child are the same issues that exist today. For most politicians it seems their political motives are self serving...and not done with the intent of improving the nation. I don't believe the PLP, or FNM, has a clue on how to govern and develop a nation. We need to elect more independent MPs, and to elect our Prime Ministers. Being a good party leader has not seemed to work in making a good or effective prime minister.

What rules are we not playing by? How are they being treated?

The US would repatriate a Bahamian or Haitian as soon as they arrive. They would not have allowed an illegal Bahamian or Haitian epidemic to persist especially to the point where the numbers start to rival the native population. So please stop with the America the great fantasies. Their humanity toward illegals only extend to the Hispanic, their next voting majority of the US.

ispeakthetruth says...

No it is not. The same principle applies. Immigrant children or students, legal or not, across borders are required to have student visas.
