Living on a Family Island without a proper health care system is what probably killed this young man. How long has this Governnrnt been promising to upgrade the health care facilities and systems on the Islsnds and yet we continue to hear story after story about people dying because they didn't have access to a doctor or the air ambulance couldn't get there in time, etc.
Enough with the excuses. We find money to travel to promote climate change and everything else while the people suffer.
And it's not just on the Famiy Islands either. My mind goes to the Kenise Darville story and others. Dr. Darville always seemd to be in defend-and-cover mode while missing the bigger picture that the public health care system in the Bahamas is second rate. The public health care system in The Bahamas simply sucks.
It's going to be interesting to see if this is actually done For too long now the understudy was just a name to get the labour's certificate. I think the understudy should report to the Mininstry every few months to ensure that they are not just a name and they are actually being trained. Out immigration policies make us the laughing stock of the world. No accountability.
No surprise here. Every foreigner in the land must have Keith Bell's personal contact and they brag about it. How could you put out a statement saying the man came to the Bahamas in the 1990's without saying "HOW" he came. The illegals know they only need to make it here and its just a matter of time before the Government comes looking for them for citizenship for votes. The Bahamas has long been for sale and this just confirms it.
All the restaurants at Atlantis including the pizza and ice cream huts charge gratuity on top of their hefty prices and VAT. Wendy's would be a welcome addition as Atlantis's food prices are high. Healthy competition is very much needed. Just hope that Wendy's can find a way to control the long slow-moving drive-thru lines at peak times. Their former location on Mackey Street was a daily nightmare. If they can get that fixed on P.I. I think they will do well.
The sad reality is nothing will come of it. We live in a society where people will take out a smart phone to record you before they help you and where stories and videos are shared on social media for shock value or likes.
Why don't they just go back to doing court hearings on the islands like they started under Minnis. Fly the magistrate in, have the hearing and ship these migrants back to their home.
What I do not get is how are they allowed to apply for work permits without proving they legally entered the country? Surely we have records of everyone who comes in legally but yet they are allowed to hide in plain sight and as soon as a job is secured, the employer applies. I do believe there is some place on the form that asks when you entered the country and if it cannot be proven that you entered legally, the application should be denied. But we facilitate it. We allow them to enter the country and walk around scott fee for years without papers and then we regulate them. We are our own worst enemies.
I feel saddened to read this story, but having been admitted to PMH over 30 years ago, all I can say is that nothing has changed. The same uncaring attitude appears to persist all these years later. Even all those years back I can recall how cold and callus the nurses were during my month-long stay at PMH. The kindest persons to me were a nurse who was a family friend who worked the ward I stayed on and a nurse's aide who changed my bed pan and read scriptures to me (may God forever bless them both).
I pray Mrs. Darville's family gets restitution. It may not bring her back, but it will call the necessary attention to that God-forsaken place they call a hospital.
May her death not be in vain and may her soul truly rest in peace.
The Govt needs to call his bluff. His foodstores, the pharmacies and the private hospital made all sorts of profits during the pandemic and every time a storm is threatening to strike he makes even more yet all he does is moan and complain. For once can there be a headline where he gives something back to the consumers who continue to enrich him.
