Why don't they just go back to doing court hearings on the islands like they started under Minnis. Fly the magistrate in, have the hearing and ship these migrants back to their home.
What I do not get is how are they allowed to apply for work permits without proving they legally entered the country? Surely we have records of everyone who comes in legally but yet they are allowed to hide in plain sight and as soon as a job is secured, the employer applies. I do believe there is some place on the form that asks when you entered the country and if it cannot be proven that you entered legally, the application should be denied. But we facilitate it. We allow them to enter the country and walk around scott fee for years without papers and then we regulate them. We are our own worst enemies.
I feel saddened to read this story, but having been admitted to PMH over 30 years ago, all I can say is that nothing has changed. The same uncaring attitude appears to persist all these years later. Even all those years back I can recall how cold and callus the nurses were during my month-long stay at PMH. The kindest persons to me were a nurse who was a family friend who worked the ward I stayed on and a nurse's aide who changed my bed pan and read scriptures to me (may God forever bless them both).
I pray Mrs. Darville's family gets restitution. It may not bring her back, but it will call the necessary attention to that God-forsaken place they call a hospital.
May her death not be in vain and may her soul truly rest in peace.
The Govt needs to call his bluff. His foodstores, the pharmacies and the private hospital made all sorts of profits during the pandemic and every time a storm is threatening to strike he makes even more yet all he does is moan and complain. For once can there be a headline where he gives something back to the consumers who continue to enrich him.
Now we know why the US Embassy continues to give warnings to Americans who plan to visit. It is because of matters like this. As Bahamians most of us think crime is only an over-the-hill issue. This shows we are wrong. The criminals target all and sundry. Tourists are no different.
SHAME Gibson is the PLP's cruelest joke. All them shingles and he gat and he still want more. Someone needs to put a stop to this. For the love of all things decent, please don't do it!!
At least he ain't making us shame like the last PM. Mr. Davis not only knows how to speak the Queen's English, but also knows how to conduct himself and knows what to say. He and his wife are always "ready for Prime Time". Some people just make you proud to be Bahamian, period!!
Don't know why Roberts is buffering when he started increasing prices months ago. I watched a small tin of Distinction evaporated milk increase from 51 cents to over 70 crnts in weeks. It seems like the minute the shelves are cleared it takes a few weeks to see the item restocked and when it cones back the price is higher. It's like they hope you don't notice. His statement brings no warning to shoppers. They been upping the prices for quite some time now.
This is the downside of banks having customers wait outside in the heat. That branch is quite roomy inside and can comfortably hold a certain amount of people but yet insists on only letting a few persons in at a time. Criminals likely had time to plan this.
Where was his voice when 'washes you. presses you, cleans you and entertains you 24/7' was given a duty free exemption on commercial washing machines while he was a Cabinet Minister in Government? The hypocrisy on both sides knows no bounds. I honestly despise Governments.
