They renewed it at a higher sum so he could get a lump sum whether the PLP won or not. There is something fundamentally wrong with that. I trust he and the former PM can sleep at night.
This article is well written. I agree Dr Minnis and his Givernmrnt seem to have a knee-jerk reaction to most things. What happened to all those lofty VERY ambitious promises made in the speech from the throne? My Governent will do this and my Government will do that. Have any of them been fulfilled? He needs to go back and listen to it again and FOCUS. Frankly I don’t even remember citizenship issues being mentioned in there. It seems to only have come to the fore because of the Frankie Campbell fiasco.
First they announce we’re going to ensure that the children of Bahamian women married to foreign men get automatic citizenship. Now the Bahamian single men who have children with foreign woman cry out so guess we’re gonna fix that by also giving them automatic citizenship. Now the children of illegals who are born here and have been in the system for years are crying out. How we gonna fix that? The responses to these and similar issues appear to be whimsical, off the cuff and not well thought out. Clearlt they DON’T have a plan and are just winging it - at least this is how it comes across.
The FNM sailed into Governmrnt because of a diastorous term by the PLP who said they ‘believed in Bahamians’ but made it clear they only believed in family friends and lovers. The Bahamian people couldn’t wait to get them out. You don’t want to make that mistake by coming in on a similar slogan that ‘it’s the people’s time’ abd then do the opposite by passing laws and policies to benefit yourselves and the things that concern you.. The PLP did that and look where they are.
I think Minnis has some broke people in Parliament who are crying out. He, Brave, Symonette and the rest DO NOT need the money. They rich without politics. Travis Robinson needs to sit small. He's making about $70,000 already with his political posts compared to not have diddly BEFORE the election. Think he trying to get rich in 5 years. To his credit, this makes him a true politician (sarcasm deliberately implied).
I thought politics was about service not high salaries I thought it was the reason MPs (outside of cabinet members) got to keep their day jobs as lawyers, doctors and businessmen.
I don't know about anyone else but I am not comfortable with someone who is claiming to be Haitian/Bahamian with no clear proof that we know of that he obtained citizenship legitimately (I.e. as the child of an illegal who sneaked into our country and claims she had him while living here illegally) sitting in our cabinet making decisions as to who can now become a Bahamian citizen and passing policies on how our country will handle illegals going forward. I get knots in my stomach just thinking about this.
Do you think for one small minute that a cabinet Minister of Haitian decent will sit there and allow his Government to not only round up illegals but to pass policies to keep them from infiltrating our borders and further marginlise them?
You know something is up with this as the PM now appears suddenly be sympathetic to their cause. The PM has now gone to church to get chummy with the Haitians and offer them words of comfort saying they won't continue to be marginalized and will get faster turnarounds for permits and citizenship. This was followed by the Minister of Immigration, Brent Symonette, assuring them that their citizenship applications will be fast-tracked (presumably this includes the children of illegals like Mr. Cambpell).
No doubt Mr. Campbell is now exerting his influence.
We left it too long. These people are now at the highest ranks in Government and in the next five years I predict that more of them will suddenly become citizens. After all they now have a fellow countryman in the camp which is what they've always wanted.
Dr. Minnis is a fool. He does not know what he's harbouring.
I agree. Most gamble away all of their hard earned income. They no longer go to the local banks to save. It goes to the number houses instead and with all of that money only going in one direction small wonder the economy is failing.
Actually, I agree with Mr. D'Aguilar. We have to be practical. You cannot outlaw something that's going to happen anyway. Webshops make hundreds of billions per annum so since Bahamians who gamble will continue to gamble anyway, why not have some of it go into a national lottery instead of into the hands of the numbers boys in an industry that currently is poorly regulated.
This is actually funny. He was so gung-ho to roc wit doc before the election and bragged in a video that went viral about helping to finance the FNM's campaign. Now they threatening to mess with his fellow Haitians and suddenly "the FNM is visionless"? You just can't make this stuff up!
