“So when you bring folks from south up here to another standard of living, let’s see if they will be in a hurry to go back from whence they came.”
And so we have the first voice of dissention. I'm impressed. Clearly everyone does not follow blindly.
I think this comment just about sums it up. I really don't think our Government realizes the Pandora's box it creates with these situations. Not saying it will happen with the Dominicans but it has happened and continues to happen with foreigners in our country and in a country that's already plagued with immigration issues, do we want to add to the possibility of it happening by inviting more? Just a thought.
I encourage you to READ the policy carefully again before advancing an opinion. I do believe that it says that whether they are here legally or not, they are to obtain a permit first from the Department of Immigration in order to register their child/children in school. The problem lies with the fact that they DO NOT want to obtain the permit because the parents are here illegally and do not want to get papers (including a valid passport) for their child. The policy is clearly NOT preventing them from attending school, it just says get a permit first even if you are the child of an illegal.
For too long, the illegals have just been prancing up our schools, anchor baby in tow, and just putting the child in the system with no proper record or accountability. The policy ended that and those who are up on arms about it or refuse to abide by the policy are clearly the ones who support the slackness and secretly support illegal migration.
In my opinion, it has to end.
Dominica, on the other hand, has just been wiped out by a hurricane. I have visited this island and it appeared to be impoverished even before the hurricane, so I can only imagine what it looks like know.
I commend the PM for reaching out. I'm sure these students will be given the proper visas and will not be coming into our country illegally demanding service and benefits, but will come through the proper channels and at our expressed invitation. There is no argument that can be advanced for anyone who does it the opposite way.
I think I missed my calling. I should have just been a rich person who funds or is really in with a political party. It's a guaranteed way to become richer. Far better than investing in the stock market and trying to win the lottery.
Come on people. Why are we shocked? We all know in the Bahamas foreign is always better. It's promoted through our culture from Government down. Why do you think they get all the best jobs and benefits. Nothing new. This been going on from King Hatchet was a Hammer.
Jesus C. This is ridiculous!! I'm appalled that Mr. Miller is all over the airwaves pretending like he so upfront and concerned. It's a flam. His record speaks for itself, as do the others. They do not pay bills but expect the taxpayers to pay theirs. Makes you wonder what else they got away with! SMDT!!
This is what happens when you enter a country illegally and then expect to reap the benefits through an anchor baby. The only slippery slope this situation creates is a burden on the Ministries of Immigration and Education to fix a problem created by the illegal parent.
When are we going to stop entertaining nonsense? These people have it figured out. Even if they are not straight, they expect - no demand - that benefits be given to their children through free health care and education (which by the way is used to learn English) and then want to act all bitter and hurt when it is denied because they don't have the proper papers.
I say we keep the policy in place. If you don't have the proper papers and can account for your presence in our country, then you should not be in our country - point blank!
