I do believe there are laws that govern these things. You don't just walk into a country and hang up a shingle to practice medicine or law without proper permits or authority from the Government and the Boards that regulate these things. Even if you are trying to help people there is a way to do it, and it's called "following the law". I don't blame them for shutting it down.

No, the leaders cannot kill or stop persons from killing each other but they can pass harsher laws for offenders. Tell me, have you seen one anti-crime law passed under this administration? We've seen the numbers houses regulated and a Stem Cell Research bill passed but nothing on crime or immigration the two most vexing problems.

We have a crisis in leadership.

Do you ever wonder why people blame the Government? Because they can pass legislation to stop most of these issues but they are happy to just sit on their as**s collect our tax payer dollars and do nothing. Special interest groups are taken care of.... citizens be damned!

I agree with you. But there's blame to be had on both sides. We have a corrupt health care system already with the insurers and doctors milking persons with private insurance. We have a corrupt Government that will probably use the money for everything except helping the persons that need it most (see NIB). The consumer/taxpayer is just piggy in the middle. Insurers don't want to lose their cash cow and Government wants an excuse to get more of our money. They are painting a picture that "Everybody Wins". In this case only the Government or the insurance companies win.

Sounds like a frying pan to fire situation. Private insurance costs an arm and a leg to maintain and the private insurers go up on the premiums every year. They and the doctors have been milking the system for years. Guess that's why the poor can't afford it.

Now you have the government sticking it's hand in and saying they will give universal health insurance. Do they have any idea how many sick people are out there and how many will actually now need the insurance? So guess what? When the true costs hits them, they will be just like the private insurers. They gonna go up and up on the salary deductions to sustain it and we the taxpayers will be left footing the bill.

In insurance the only persons that ever win are the insurers. The consumer always gets stuck with the high premium and the lack of true coverage.

Unfortunately for LB-T, one cannot secure party leadership based on public votes, desire or opinion. It's based on FNM party members voting you in during Convention. I understand the good Doc has that aspect of the voting locked down.

I had a similar experience with FirstCaribbean today. Got a cheque from an insurance company which was drawn at that bank. When I presented the cheque for cashing, the teller asked me if I had an account with them. I asked, "Why?" She said, "Because if you don't, there will be a charge of $5.38 to cash the cheque." I said, "Why are you charging me and I am not the person who wrote the cheque? If anything, you should be charging YOUR customer." She couldn't even respond. Mercifully I have an account with FC and didn't have to pay but it was still beyond annoying! What if I didn't have an account?

Obviously this is the route that the commercial banks are now taking but it reeks of unfairness to customers.

What the hell does this mean? That I now have to open an account with EVERY commercial bank just to make sure I don't have to pay to use a service they are charging their customers for?

Who is responsible for monitoring what these crooks are doing? Someone needs to look into this immediately!!

I agree with the letter writer. If you did not get a permit or inspection for a stage in construction, then you have to tear it down and start over. Why is everyone just saying the permits were not obtained but nobody is saying that it should be torn town and the contracted made to start over. If the building is not inspected you have no way of knowing if the proper amount of steel went into the foundation, etc. This is catastrophic and somebody is clearly being paid under the table to look the other way. #typicalthirdworldstyle
