“We really need full clarity on this matter,” Mrs Butler-Turner told The Tribune. “To me if we look at the fourth Bahamas Constitutional Bill the insertion of the word “sex” presents a challenge because it creates ambiguity and opens us up to same sex marriages."
I agree. Solution change it to "gender". If they leave it, I will be voting "NO".
Well said! Every time Bahamians blog in the negative about this Haitian migration/citizenship issue, there is always one fool in the mix who brings up this American citizenship sh**. We are NOT America. And No! We CANNOT handle it! We do not enter America illegally in mass and camp out in their hospitals and schools working illegally and having children! The Haitians who are here legally are in the minority and the ones cussin' for rights are usually second and third generation Haitians whose parents entered this country illegally. i agree with the earlier blogs. Even you are going to entertain them for any residency at all give them permanent residence and let them carry their backsides to the Haitian Embassy for their passports. Citizenship should not be a right - it's a privilege earned and not earned by breaking the darned law!!!
I have lost my respect for Mr. Chipman and I certainly won't be voting FNM in the next election if this is how his party is thinking. Mercifully, he does not represent the FNM or the majority because he will find that most right-thinking Bahamians would not agree to this. One only has to listen to the talk shows or follow social media. Any time you want to start a firestorm, talk about Haitian migration and their perceived "rights" to citizenship in The Bahamas after breaking our law, entering our country illegally and then "havin' chirren".
The bottom line is this is a vexing problem that needs to be addressed and not in the far future. He should take his cue from Dr. Minnis, and choose his words carefully when making any comments in this regard,
I think the union is trying to get Miller out. Every power outage - and there are many - is a reflection on him. Get rid of him and I guarantee that the power outages will stop.
Child, Mr. Gibson, this should not surprise or shock you. Anyone who has ever had to deal with any Government ministry or department knows that good customer service is the exception rather than the rule. You may have used your column to address the poor service, but trust me, nothing will change. I suggest you simply do what I do. I just make it a point to ALWAYS compliment any civil servant who is pleasant and appears to be making an effort to give good customer service. Trust me, they are few and very far between.
You and I may be long dead and gone before this slack system of poor Government service ever changes. In the meantime, try not to take it on.
No surprise here. Remember this all started because the proceeds of the crime were used to fund an election campaign. Remember we have a debt to pay. Stem cell done straight. The other big fish -web shops - is next and we ga get them straight come hell or high water.
Why is this man STILL at the helm of this corporation? Every time he opens his mouth, it is a contradiction!!
"Customers moved to pay off their outstanding bills after BEC warned people to do so or face an interruption of their supply as disconnection exercises were expected to begin yesterday".... and of course we know this doesn't apply to him and his cronies.
“BEC needs the money. BEC is cash-strapped.".... Hey, I'm sure they are as the cronies are not paying!
“If they go in and pay their regular bill in full and then pay something appreciative on their old bill, they may be able to stay on. Try to do the best you could....." This coming from the Chairman who only paid something AFTER his bill was exposed.
Not that I don't feel bad for the lady but this is a joke to what I experienced at the Canadian Border going into Canada from New York for a 4-day visit with a friend to see the Niagara Falls with our Bahamian passports, US-cash in hand, and our hotel reservation - still they held us up for 4 hours grilling us with questions and searching our rental car and suitcases... the whole nine yards. We were completely baffled by the treatment as we were clearly tourist just coming in for a visit. I wanted to go back across the border and call it a wash, but I refused to let them spoil my visit. I will never return to Canada again so I know exactly how this lady feels. I trust they get to the bottom of this.
The focus HAS to be on the $100,000 payment because if it's laundered money, then technically this is a crime and his bill is still NOT paid. I trust they have these funds stashed is a safe somewhere and that a credit is not applied to his account until due diligence is complete.
I am truly baffled at Mr. Miller's attitude. He continues to try and deflect from the facts. He owed the corporation money and was telling everyone else off about their bills, his company's so-called cash payment is now in question, we find out that he is personally authorizes the BEC technicians not to cut off other PLP croonies' lights when they owe and yet he continues to fly in the face of the media with his "up yours" statements because he knows the PM is too jelly to fire him.
Jesus, this country is gone. We desperately need a new government!
