Did the Bahamian court system approve the government to use what 'it thinks' it owes Baha Mar for the road works to pay the staff?
Last I remember the two sides could not agree on the amount and it was the government which set a figure which Baha Mar did not agree to.
Having said that, and I may be wrong, This will turn into another law suit that may go all the way to the Privy Consul to sort out. And I would bet that they rule that in favor of the developer since no court order was granted to allow the government to use those funds which were due to the developer.
I hate to say it but I do not see this issue getting resolved anytime soon.
They could save a ton of money if they stopped with the 'stronger bahamas' ad campaign which is on every radio station and in every print media in the country!
I saw the bugger and thought to myself, gee a guy like that would normally be picking his nose and eating it..what happened - did he get spooked by the press and forgot to pick his nose???
I heard that when the Chinese workers did not get paid and were sent home without pay that they sabotaged the building in areas that would be very hard to find and once found would be next to impossible to fix without a great deal of work and huge amounts of money. I heard that areas like fire suppression, ventilation and AV were sabotaged in a way that nobody will find out until they start up the systems and have guests in the property. In other words it will work for the tests but after a few days/weeks/months of use things will start to go haywire.
It is no secret that the Chinese do not like to be offended or belittled and they do serious offences to their enemies.
I can only hope that the person who told me this was misinformed.

Proud -
You are mistaken.
Very few if any containers that arrive at the container port actually stay in the Bahamas, most are just passing through.
Most containers that come into the country for domestic use come through the Port (Lucayan Harbour) and those do attract the fees which you mention.

I just checked the cost to fly to China on AA.com
If you book for Wednesday which is two days out the cost to fly in Business is $7,775. Even more if they flew in first class.
Add in the best hotel, the best food and wine, transportation, etc.
I can easily see this costing us $100,000
Don't worry, it's only money - they are still printing it.... !
