... I wonder what she would say if she had to stay on a public female ward for one week, eating hospital food and trying to find a nurse to give her her medication on time?

... several major problems in this country contribute to a feeling of hopelessness. One has to do with poor decision making. Many people still do not grasp that actions have consequences. People want to have children before they have a proper job, education, stable relationship or the means to take care of a child. Many live with the consequences of bad decisions that stifle their ability to get ahead!

Secondly at the upper and lower end of the job spectrum Bahamians have to compete with foreigners, be they children of immigrants or white collar foreigners. You have immigrants pumping gas, working as cooks and in the straw market, while those in the financial services industry complain of being pushed out by non Bahamians etc. The few productive citizens in the middle feel all the pressure from taxes This is a major problem.

Thirdly, no matter what level a person wants to work at its who you know, not what you know. If you are educated, you may be over qualified. If you have no education, you need qualifications. It is this nonsense that causes the continued hemorrhage of productive Bahamians.

... there are a lot of soft skills that parents used to pass onto their children that you just don't see anymore. Being courteous, showing initiative and a willingness to learn are traits that are extremely hard to find in many young Bahamians. You have to teach them the basics of how to speak to customers, how to answer a phone etc. This is a reflection in the systematic breakdown of the home in this country. We have too many people that want a job but don't want to work. We have a country with far too many children and far too few **parents**!

... the fines for these kinds of crimes and drug possession should be much higher!

... the government needs the revenue. Time to give civil servants their Christmas bonus!

... no sympathy here! Bahamians care about their **image** far more than they care about developing their **character**! No more conch for him for quite a while!

... the real questions are who is approving these work permits and why? What legal recourse do Bahamians have if they are being pushed out of the industry by foreign workers? Is there a kickback scheme at work here? All questions that need answers!

... it has been my opinion for many years that the Bahamas does not have a justice system, it merely has an easily manipulated legal system!

... a new $201 million hospital is not needed! That won't change the lackadaisical attitudes people have towards work! It won't improve efficiency, increase empathy or stop doctors who should be in the hospital from going to their private practices! Its the lack of accountability, transparency and genuine concern for others that makes our healthcare system so poor in spite of the large amounts of money thrown at it! The health care system is dysfunctional because, like the rest of our country, it is poorly managed!

... truly a tragedy, but the article is unclear as to her status while *renting* and *working* in the country as a "hair braider". Does she pay national insurance as a self employed person?
