The next question is whether or not she knew somebody there who may have made it easier for her, because sadly, that's still the way things work in this country!
If they were trying to save lives they would not be turning patients away from clinics with covid-19 symptoms without testing and simply tell them to self isolate. This is why we cannot get an accurate reflection of how many are infected and this is also why contract tracing is failing. I have also been told from a source in the public clinic system that people referred to South Beach clinic for testing from private medical facilities are being denied the test and are being told to go to a private facility or lab. Many cannot afford the $200+ cost to test and so they continue community spread if they are infected because they have to get on with their lives and try to make a living. If these things are true then the management of this issue at the public health level is shameful at best!
It would be great if newspapers actually did some investigative journalism on these issues!

... you are conflating separate issues! What the law is and its indiscriminate application are separate though interrelated issues. I already said all laws should be enforced!
Corruption in all forms reflects an issue with the human heart and conscience not the law itself. I suspect the reason a majority of young black men in this country are in jais is because the majority of our population is black. I also suspect that the majority of those in prisons in Canada, Nordic countries, India or China (which have the worlds largest populations) are not black!
... a vaccine is iffy for many, but at the rate infections are spreading (confirmed cases only reveal a small percentage of those infected since the vast majority are asymptomatic) we will soon achieve herd immunity. Infections will peak and then steadily decline. At the end of it we will have many deaths but the combination of ignorance from those in charge and apathy from a large segment of the population makes me wonder who really cares!
We are missing the opportunity to come out of this thing better as a country. Handouts are good, but hand ups are better!
We should be stressing the importance of education, saving and investing. Making opportunities available to strengthen communication, improve anger management etc in families. We should be showing the links between poverty and single parent homes so people could learn to make better choices and reduce the hardship in their lives. People should be made aware of free online university courses to improve their employment opportunities on the other side of this pandemic, but instead I expect a surge in new births to those who can least afford it which will coincide with the lockdowns and the cycle of learned helplessness continues. People are not learning independence but continued dependence and this is how politicians maintain control.
