... if I am not mistaken, Taiwan did have very stringent lockdowns very early on, but were able to relax them. After SARS they developed a national plan to deal with the next pandemic. They snubbed early WHO guidelines and followed their own plan. The end results attest to their efficiency in addressing the problem. We plan for nothing and think talking is a substitute for a plan, that is why we are always caught by surprise. Hurricane season is an annual event, but we are always surprised when one is bearing down on us! We are a nation of apathetic fools who abhor meritocracy, detest accountability and love electing fools to lead us, yet we are always surprised at undesirable outcomes!
@truetrueBahamian ... look, this is simple. Bahamians who travel to a hotspot can get infected and bring the infection back. Tourists who travel from a hotspot cannot bring the virus here when they travel. The data proves that. There is a selective virus destroyer on flights that works based on nationality or is it melanin?
... don't worry, things are trending down based on the data and input from medical professionals! Ignore the obvious infections and deaths. You can go to the beach and relax! Your supreme ruler has spoken!
Arawak Cay should be curbside only for now in order to avoid crowding. Once people start drinking and eating their reduced inhibitions can only result in socializing. If they start talking about politics or junkanoo, people will be in each other faces without masks without even realizing it.
Let patrons call in their orders and pick it up curbside!
... my only point was that some of these issues are more complex than many would let on. We live an an age of propaganda where those with the largest megaphones and wallets are able to shape human thought and consequently human behavior with their perceptions of truth. Can we make decisions to make things better, of course, but the issue at the heart of all inequality in the world is self-centeredness or self interest. Man is hardwired for it and that is why no economic system can create true equality. That is why people will exploit both human and natural resources for their own benefit. Only a change of heart can alter the cataclysmic course mankind is on because of that. Education can help, but it is only a band-aid because self interest always oozes through . How the heart of man can change is a separate discussion.
... you know well that the issue is **not** people coming to the Bahamas to work. The larger issue is people coming here **illegally** to compete for jobs with legal residents and citizens. Vast difference!

The most striking thing about this entire experience is that no coherent plan for sustainable national development has been proposed yet! Remarkable!
